Wrt License fees, bicycles don't have CO2 emissions and DO NOT damage roads at all, vehicles damage roads. As simple as that. You only overtake a vehicle, including bicycles, when it's safe to do so. Do not go blame the road or the trailer. It's your responsibility to assess the conditions and not to put your fellow road user's lives in danger by your dicisions and actions. There are MANY commuters on bicycles on our roads who struggle just to feed themselves or their families, perhaps start thinking of ways to donate some helmets. nathrix Posted October 4, 2015 Share Was told the other day by a work colleague that he could not swerve for a pothole in the road because a motorcyclist was approaching and how he hated motorcyclists because he could have damaged his car. Could not beleive he blamed the mototorcyclist and not the pothole??????I asked him why does he hate motorcyclists when it's vehicles such us his that damage our roads and the authorities who do not maintain our roads properly or due to poorly designed roads? A family is mourning the loss of a Loved one due to impatience or frustraton of the driver to get to a delivery point 5 minutes sooner than waiting for a safe pass of the cyclist. Bateleur1 Posted October 5, 2015 Share RIP to the cyclist and strongs to the family. To Jakie I can only say that his knowledge of the Road Traffic act is directly related to his ability to spell. It is traumatic to see something happening like that and I have been in a similar situation but that does make you a judge. Rather go for trauma counceling than stiiring on social media. That is one of the reasons I moved to Europe. The roads are not even as wide as in SA and even if the speed limit is 100 on it, vehicles slow down and pass when it is safe to do so. Ek vermoed dat ryer van die pad gedruk is en toe onder wiele beland het. N Trok sal nie sommer n fietsrtyer insuig nie. Op n nou pad is dit die drywer se verantwoordelikheid om spoed te verminder na gelang van verkeersvloei. Die drywer moes wag totdat omstandighede gunstig was om verby te steek. Ek verstaan dit was traumaties maar ek vermoed dat jy nie juis van fietsryers hou nie. Ek het gehelp om die ryer te identifiseer. Hy is goed geskool en het n baie goeie pos beklee by n Internationale Maatskappy in Rosslyn. Ek hoop hy rus in vrede sy hele lewe het nog voor hom gele. Vir sy familie my innige simpatie. Vir sy kollegas ook. Ongelukkig is daar te veel motoriste soos jy wat nie regtig die padverkeerswette ken nie en fietsryers as n beslommernis op die pad sien sonder enige regte.Die wet maak vir ons voorsiening op die pad en jy moet ons erken as n padgebruiker/voertuig. That's why my road bike gets ridden for about 200km's a year. Argus & 94.7. Re truck drivers. Our standards are way too low, when it comes to driving a vehicle, especially when you consider its easier to pass a Code 14 Truck license to a regular Code 10 Light Motor Vehicle. I have both. I have personal experience of being in an truck, doing potential interviews, for a driving position at work. On 2 separate occasions that day, the GPS said "Turn Left" and both candidates DID! I should mention that they both did this, going through a RED Robot!!! When asked why, they said the GPS said so... Scouts honour! When I got back to the office, I told my business partner he could do the next interviews, as I wasn't being paid enough.... Scary what's happening out there. Be safe & very very aware.
