Rickus, go for tubeless wheels and tyres, it's worth the expense. I converted a few months ago (AC plus Schwalbe One) and haven't looked back.

Changed to 27mm and dropped the pressure from 8 bar to 7. Haven't had a puncture in 7 months. Tyres are shot now. Canvas showing. Could be coincidence that I haven't had a puncture.

I'm in the habit of running my hand on the tyre if I see I might have hit a patch of glass. Back wheel first then front. While on the move. Obviously with a glove. It takes just a few seconds.

Gatorskins and always check tyre pressure is at least 5 bar before riding anywhere .A flat with a gatorskin will almost always be a pinch flat or snakebite

Metal filament is probably your bead disintegrating... Gatorskins if you're looking for bombproof, but if you're on a budget Serfas make a pretty puncture resistant tyre for not very much cash.

Serfas are great tyres. I find the Contis too tight on my rims and have broken several tyre levers on those things. My Serfas deal with industrial areas - glass, metal - heck, there's even a 1cm cut on one and they keep on truckin'

I have had punctures with Gatorskins 2 or 3 times...including a sidewall cut... any tyre will puncture no matter what you fit...

I have new Mavic tubes and Vredestein Fortezza Senso  and have not had a puncture yet.

A friend runs kenda tubes and Hutchinson Nitro tyres and have had no punctures in years and in last week had 3 punctures.

Luck of the draw and keep and eye out for anything in the road... be it wire or stones or glass or anything
