Local Bike Shop (LBS)

It's an age old problem. Bike shops are like dope dealers and cyclists are like dope smokers.

When a guy goes to see his dealer he thinks it's a big deal, cause it is for him. Very exciting. He wants to experience the thrill and talk bollocks with the dealer, perhaps even smoke a little joint or two, be a part of the scene. The dealer however is trying to make a buck. He has heard every stoner story and more, and that's just since this morning. Sure he will enjoy a toke now and again with his mates but he doesn't really want to smoke with every guy in to buy a bankie. He doesn't mean to be rude, or perhaps he does, but it's his profession. For the smoker it's a hobby and he wants to talk about it and trade war stories.

So forums got invented. So us amateurs can swop stories and brag a bit about what bandits we are.

Hi Hubbers! What the heck is going on with bikes shops lately????

Of all the bike shops Ive used in the past 15 years, every time I walk away after spending money, I just get that distinct feeling Ive been ripped off.

....

Interesting, in all of that time I have only once felt sightly grumpy about the experience and never felt ripped off.

Maybe the problem is not with the bike shops ?

Whenever I see these 'generic' all bike shops complaints I wonder if there is something wrong with me that most of my interaction with them is pleasant and I walk away happy?

If I am unhappy with something I do let them know so I am not some 'just let it go' type person ......

At least our LBS has a low expectation of a friendly greeting... unless he's on leave  :whistling:

Just kidding, we are lucky to have a well stocked lbs.

If you walked in looking like your Avatar I hope they tried to sell you a top and bibs! :P

I have been going to the same store now for 5 odd years. They know my bike, they now me and most of the Savage guys, they ask about what we up to, seeding etc which is nice.

They know I like getting my bike back on the same day from any service and are great okes.

I think its a case of you get out what you put in. I do not expect to be treated like a loyal customer, if I am not a loyal customer.

I thought that I was Crown Cycles best customer!? The guys at Crown are top notch, I can vouch for that, they know I service my own bike but yet I get treated like I'm there to buy everything in the store... They even call when I've asked for an item that had been restocked... now that is "pure service" ;)
