Hey guys,

Quick question: In NZ, what's your go-to Bike media? What Magazines, bloggers, Vlogs, websites etc do you check and trust for good quality info, pics and stories ? Does not have to be road or dirt specific, but if you could tell me where to look for what, that would be rad!

Thanks!

"Pics, trails, reviews, more info about trail heads etc"....my go to place is Trail forks.

NZ don't have a "bikehub", does any other country actually? I tell many many people from different countries about bikehub and what info one can find here, usually after they ask " how do you know about the latest bike tech, and servicing and races all sound the world, the best riders etc etc ", I give one answer always " thehub". Most riders (dirt, road, triathlon etc etc) don't know much other than just riding. The ones I have spent time with (plenty by now in all disciplines) don't know about the different brands in most things cycling related, they can maybe mention like 4 bike brands (don't even ask where the brands are from), they take their bike to shops to get tyres changed etc. Honesty, they don't seem filled with info, so the lack of cycling related bike media isn't a shock to me really.

That's my view about most of the riders I've met here.

Went to Nelson for the weekend. Cruised along the Abel Tasman coast and visited a few other areas.

Great part of the country, I noticed that there were loads of MTBers out... made me think 2 things...

I need to get back on my bicycle... and maybe I should get myself a new bicycle to get back on, hahahaha!

Also went to the Pic's peanut butter factory. Quite the remarkable story there. Nice to see a garage startup from a small town going global!

Anyone keen on a Rotorua Bike weekend?

me me me...

My mom can 'babysit' and sightsee while we ride... I am sure your kids are so well informed about Rotorua already from all the people you have taken there that they will be able to tell my mom about all the facts in the area :D

Let me know ahead of the time so we can plan it in, I am going to start booking weekends soon soon what I will do with her while she is here...kinda like this (not in this sequence accept for the 1st one/weekend):

1. The Mount

2. Rotorua

3. Queenstown

4. Hahei/Whitihanga/etc

5. New Plymouth

6. Wellington.......or other small town(s) that might be more arty/scenery... OR skiing weekend with Potgieters

7. Paihai

8. Around Auckland/ Piha/ etc

We would love to show you and your mom the black sand beaches.

Also, the ski trip would be awesome if she joins us as well.

As for the Rotorua ride, i hadnt really looked at any dates or anything, i just realised i have been to Rotorua 5 times and I have not yet ridden my bike there and thats kinda sad.

You're not alone on that one.

  • 2x Queenstown trips
  • 2x Wanaka trips
  • 1x Taranaki trip
  • 1x Nelson trip
  • Lived 5km from the Christchurch Adventure Park

but never rode at any of them, hahaha!

Time to speak to Matt to host a bikehub.nz or whatever the local domain is... :)

Someone should go grab the domain name quicksticks.

Anyone keen to go ride the section of the Hauraki rail trail that's opening 9 September? I am thinking about starting at Kopu and doing a ride to Pūkorokoro and back again.

Anyone keen?

Beer after the marathon for sure; we're headed to see some mates in the afternoon out past Katikati

Which marathon is that? Cycling or running?
