Given that I am in a different country, I agree with you. You're most likely all aware of the changes Peter Dutton has made across the puddle from you.

My employer has engaged the services of an agent to fast track my work visa to PR here. They're not prepared to have me negatively impacted after taking the time and spending the money to get me here.

My paperwork should be lodged before the end of this month. I'm waiting for new SAPS clearance certificate (DocAssist doing the running around after fleecing me a few R'000) which will then be added to the submitted application.

Another thing to remember regarding the extra fees to do residency application now is that once it comes through, you qualify for kiwisaver, and your employer contribution to it, which in most cases is way more than what you will spend on fees.

I'm guessing you haven't been to a licensing or home affairs in SA recently? Things have changed somewhat in the last 12 months, and not for the better...

hahaha, well in August 2015 I applied for a 2nd SA passport (work recommended I have 2), I went down to Home Affairs in Randburg.

From arriving to leaving... 12min!

And on my walk back to the car I got an SMS saying my application had been submitted. Got the SMS to say it was ready 1 week later.

That new system they had with ticket numbers all distributed from the information counter, really worked. Collection however was a different story. Waited 2hrs in queues because they were still doing things the old school way.

Hats off to the applications side though!

Speaking of passports and all that, does anyone know if it's possible to have 2 SA passports linked to a NZ Work Visa?

It just makes it easier when applying for other visas (USA, Aus, Schengen etc) if one passport is tied up in another application process?!

Another thing to love about NZ - pollies are just normal people. I took the lighties to McDonalds in Mt Maunganui while the Mrs was running a half marathon, bumped into a familiar looking fellow who like me was running around after two small boys. That's Simon Bridges, minister of transport. Asked him - hey are you Simon Bridges? He said yes, your local MP, then we chatted about the joys of parenthood while supervising lighties in the playplace. And a selfie, which is something I VERY rarely do...

Here's some of the bad...

The mountain biking.

Ok, so before I justify this statement I must say that I haven't ridden properly in over a year, so fitness and some lost skill definitely affected my experience.

I know there is reportedly good riding at places like Woodhill and such. But that's 40km from the city. So as far as close to the city goes... the only one I know of is Arch Hill and it is crap. No flow. Gets insanely muddy. And just not fun to ride.

Johannesburg isn't known as a mountain-bike mecca, but for what the Spruit is, it's pretty remarkable, and I miss it.

I must say on the other hand that Christchurch has an abundance of great trails all within a short ride from the CBD. I definitely took them for granted.

So I will be paying a visit to Woodhill some time, but being 40km away and knowing that there are dirt bike trails in that vicinity, I might take the lazy-2 wheeler first, haha!

True that patches, accessibility of trails can be a pain in AKL. But get to woodhill and make a day of it, it is well worth it. Also Maraetai where niterider lives, has some bloody good trails...

I am going to Rotorua this weekend...talking about good trails to ride!!!

BUT I am taking my road bike...eish!

Taking my mom, weather looks crap all over the show this weekend, so I thought there will be best. To get some riding in I will be making the Rotorua to Taupo trip on bike Sunday morning early while she can drive when she wakes up.

Will be my 1st time there without riding MTB (since 2011)..

Right folks, I need some help.

Part of my university work is I have to conduct a public survey on some healthcare issues in New Zealand.

May i please ask you to complete one or all of these surveys?

They are only ten questions each, so it should not take up too much time.

Only for folks living in NZ though.

Thanks
