Hi guys, recently moved to Alberton and was wondering if there are group rides here which I can join? I have a road and mountain bike so either is fine.

Thanks.

There are the road group that meet Saturdays and Sundays at Xumbugs

Then there are DOC who meet weekly and have very structured MTB rides, look for DOC on facebook

Welcome to the Bike hub and Alberton

There are many groups down here in the south. Most roadies meet at the Swartkoppies / Kilpriver road intersection at 7am on the weekends.

The Mtb'r generally meet at Lido Hotel and are a group call DOC. You can find them on Facebook and from there make the necessary arrangements.

Else you can join Germiston Wheelers cycling club which isn't to far away.

There is also a new bike store opening in Alberton next month which is going to host group rides so you can look out for that too.

Safe riding!!

Xumbugs is at corner klipriver and swaartkoppies DOC's meet ever Wednesday eve for an opskop. Every Saturday and Sunday from about 630am. There usually 4 groups with varying distances that head off. We meet at Bells Inn driving range which is a little further down swaartkoppies on the left when heading westwards. Check DOC mountain bikers on FB as stated above. Looking forward to meeting you. PM if need anymore info

Questions should be, what do you expect from your riding?
Social rider, serious, or somewhere in between?

Do you want a guaranteed ride on a certain day at set time?
If you puncture, have a mechanical, will the group stop and wait?

  • The Lido bunch is great, but don't expect them to wait for you if you are too slow, or puncture.
  • Albion Wheelers - growing quickly, and are great for the real beginner and less serious. They lack something for the more serious guys - perhaps with time that might change;
  • Germiston Wheelers - many ex members are with Albion because of location. Doesn't make sense to drive from Bracken area to start a club ride in Germiston, although many rides are in the same area as the clubs/groups above. As biased as I am to my club, I believe there is a place for everyone so no pressure.
  • DOC - best MTB club in the south with dedicated ride groups. And they love to do the odd road race on their knobblies.

Albion Wheelers meets on the corner of Swartkoppies and Kliprivier every Saturdays & at Rietvlei Farm on Sundays.   Their rides start either before or after the Lido group as they have good attendance numbers at their rides.

They have rides for slow, medium and fast riders.   It's not a racing club, but there are quite a few strong riders.   They have a good number of female riders in their club too.   Rider safety is a big concern for them, so nobody is left behind & they generally try & have a support vehicle for most of their rides.

Have a look at their FB page for more info.
