nox1111 Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 Any guys out there savvy enough to design and make one of these for me? I've been running SDG i-beam seat/post combos since I started MTB riding a couple years back. Love the setup, light, strong and never had a problem with a seat moving. I bought a Fox DOSS dropper a while back and had to shelf my i-beam setup but in turn traded my seat for a Fizik Gobi with carbon rails - so pretty good trade. Last night I see both rails are broken off where the carbon is bonded to the seatpan... So now, I am longing for my i-beam seat on my DOSS and a quick google reveals people have thought of this - but no one is actually selling them as far as I can make out. So, if anyone is sharp enough to make me one - obviously I'll pay you for it, maybe it's also a good idea for you for a small side business. The last link is the one I really want!Looks like the DOSS and the Thompson is identical in clamp setup, so should be a direct fit. http://www.mtnbikeriders.com/2008/10/01/interbike-2008-sdg-usa-%E2%80%93-patriot-saddle-and-i-beam-adapter-for-thompson-post https://www.behance.net/gallery/4281373/Thomson-to-SDG-I-Beam-Seat-Post-Adapter http://www.pinkbike.com/news/Reality-Redesigned-The-GAUNTLET-Ep8-Thomson-to-I-Beam-Adapter.html I've mailed SDG directly this morning, but in my experience, companies like that seldomly respond...
Eddy Gordo Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 hmm, I might also be possibly interested in an adaptor like in the second pic. I wonder if Droo would be able to assist.
droo Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 I know a guy with a CNC machine, I'll forward this to him and see what he says...
Skylark Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 So basically you like the ibeam seat itself because with an adaptor and on a normal post/dropper there is no advantage to the ibeam part of an ibeam saddle? Maybe try Wtb saddles - win!

Whilst clamping system won't be as robust and simple as a regular i-beam seatpost, there is still the advantage of no rails to bend when landing hard on the saddle. I also prefer the i-beam system. To the OP... maybe ditch the Fox DOSS if you can source one of these... I've never seen an i-beam seat break or bend. And I myself have bent and broken 3 or 4 normal railed saddles, so I prefer to stick to I-beam if I can.

hayleyearth Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 Can't Mr. C Swart help you out? As far as I can remember he has the resources for the design part (which I am sure you are more than capable to do too actually) and he must have good contacts with cnc capabilities...

nox1111 Posted December 15, 2015 Author Posted December 15, 2015 Prototype 1, cut from PVC, is very close - just working on seat angle adjustability and then should be spot on!
nox1111 Posted December 17, 2015 Author Posted December 17, 2015 And the alu unit being CNC cut. The unit cut and assembled. Will test fit later today and see how it works!
nox1111 Posted December 17, 2015 Author Posted December 17, 2015 haha, haven't discussed it yet with the guys, will have to see... Gave them a heads-up before they started to the max I'm willing to pay for the part, and so they knew that going in. More than that I have no clue yet.
Eddy Gordo Posted December 17, 2015 Posted December 17, 2015 I must have a proper look. The seatpost that I am wanting to use should be able to take an Ibeam clamp. Then it is just a matter of swopping them around. Naa, not what I was thinking
