NGUTF Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 Im upgrading my ALU bars to carbon, looking at the Easton EC90 SL bars. Curious to know if its possible to have bar ends installed on carbon handle bars? The bar ends that I currently use are Giant rubber cheapies Any hubbers out there tried this? Are there any other good quality brands to look at? (Looking forward to a Friday roasting )

(Looking forward to a Friday roasting )Some brands of carbon bars have aluminium rings inside the carbon specifically to let you use bar ends - find one of those thats rated for bar end use and if you feel the need, go with that.... And while you are at it, don't forget the Sahmurai swords for the bars too...

Hope it is a 26er !!! haha, close, its some where between a 29er and a 26er
Spoke101 Posted November 22, 2015 Posted November 22, 2015 I'm 99% sure EC90 bars are not compatible with bar ends, especially considering the bar weight is around 145g. Specialized make some Alu inserts/plugs that might work with bar ends but I wouldn't risk it.
Heel Drop Posted November 22, 2015 Posted November 22, 2015 I will ever ride with bard ends unless some one comes up with an idea where they push into the straight bar and u can pull of the straight bar and turn like a short part 90 degrees in relation to your straight bar and lock them in place and when u dont need them click them back into place and push them back into the bar being parallel with the straight bar to be hidden away - just for long endurance rides when I need to use them I can take them out - should be very light and purely to change my position over long distance - must be possible with some clever engineering
NGUTF Posted November 23, 2015 Author Posted November 23, 2015 Most of the riding that I do is long distance so the change in hand position is nice. I emailed Easton and this is the reply: ""Hi, You may use bar ends, but be very careful to not go over the torque value supplied by the ends. BRANDON THOMSON | Customer Service & Sales Manager | RACE FACE & EASTON CYCLING604.415.2364 | raceface.com | eastoncycling.com"" Thoughts?? Comments that I have read online suggest inserting metal reinforcing. Others have said that the bar end slit should be at a 90degree angle to the circumference of the clamp..
