Hi Guys and Gals

I'm getting my sister into cycling. She is 153 tall with a shoe size of 2 (35,36).

Where can we get entry level mtb shoe this small?

She is also looking for a small mtb of around 10k.

Maybe CWC or CRC or somebody can special order for her, I don't think I've ever seen a cycling shoe that small on the shelf.

On a separate note, make sure she buys all her own stuff from the outset - I got my sister into cycling a little over a year ago while she was still a student, now she is working and I still somehow am paying for everything, let me be a lesson to you... :P

Don't worry about cleats - they;ll be half the size of the shoe, and you won't get them anywhere.

Get her a set of normal kids' skate shoes (or converse / vans etc) cos at that shoe size, stiffness will be a non-issue. The pedal will take up the majority of the shoe sole.

Then, pair them with a good set of flat pedals. No, not these:

or these:

But a set of these:

or something similar.

As a beginner, she will be FAR more comfortable with the concept of flats, and it will be far more beneficial for her skills progression.

Seriously.

You will also see that it's nigh on impossible to get cleated shoes that small. Normal "skate" style shoes, or converse etc (even what she normally wears as long as teh soles are reasonably flat) will be absolutely fine at that foot size. It's only when you go to the bigger sizes that stiffness will become an issue.

Don't try and force her into the whole "real riders only use cleats" line of BS.

1 - It's BS

2 - You won't be able to get them

3 - It's better for her to start off on flats

Myles is reg. Luister vir Myles.

My wife rode on flats with her trail jogging tekkies for a year and a half before she upgraded to riding clipped in. When she started clipping in her confidence was shattered by two early falls. Let her ride in tekkies until she is confident.

On a side note, I used to work in footwear, and the smallest size was around 3 or 4. So I reckon a special import will be at the order of the day for her cycling shoes.

My 11 year old daughter is 1,4m, and we found her a carbon Volcan 26er for under R10k. She rides with a Specialized Riata shoe which is a size 36 and we got them from Concept Cycles. Good luck
