SS chainrings and chain question

I broke the chain on my SS for the second time today in as many months today. So it is going to be retired with the chainring (pretty old,) as well.

I've used a normal KCNC 32t chainring for 5years on the SS and Ive never had issues with chain slip on it. I run an 8spd chain and a DMR tensioner. The DMR tensioner's roller isn't wide enough for a track or SS chain, 8spd chains are the widest that it can take.

Is there any real advantage to using a narrow-wide or a single speed specific ring over a normal chainring?
Using another normal chainring and 8spd chain will be quite a bit cheaper than going the fancy pancy route, but what does the cool kids say?

I have broken many chains. Bought a ss chain from rapide/kiwi. It has lasted me almost two years. I have had a gusset chainring for as long as I have ridden ss, still the same ring, still no problems.

If you have used a normal KCNC 32t chainring for 5years on the SS and Ive never had issues then why change to a NW chainring for the new setup?

If you want to pimp your ride with a sexy Raceface NW chainring then go for it!

Definitely not worth using a Narrow / Wide, the purpose of these chainrings is to contain the chain on 1X bikes where there is a large amount of slack in the chain. Running them on a SS is definitely not something I would recommend or suggest.

Well typically the chainline on your your SS isn't 100%. Given the NW design there is naturally more friction between the chain / chainring interface, and apart from drag, this friction would speed up the wear process [of both chainring and chain], not to mention the whole idea [in my understanding anyway] of an SS is to keep setup simple and costs low.
