Do wide bars really help breathing?

but if you try the wide bars, you also need to shorten your stem, it is a package deal.

...and throw away your bar ends.

They are making a comeback! Think I need to put some on a CX bike!

don't worry, sooner or later the cx crowd will come around and stop using them. ......clip a couple of bushes and your love for them vanishes :P

For what its worth, i had a 660mm bar and there was nothing wrong with amd felt good.

Then i decided to change my stem from a 90mm to a 60mm and the control i got was very noticible, for the better.

I the decided to increase the bar width to 780mm amd felt like i was driving a bus and felt awkward.

I then moved in my grips 1cm each side and felt that was good and enjoywd that amd was about to cut....then...moved back to the full bar width again and somehow that felt really good with lots of control so habe left them there for the last couple rides.

Next i think i will try a 50 or 45mm stem.

Cant comment on the breathing but the control is much better and increase width of bar must be coupled with decrease in stem lenght to get the benefit.

If a person punts wider bars because 29ers are apparently so hard to control, fk me but you must have chess player arms. Or you didn't spend 15 years on a 26er honing your skills and need a wide bar to compensate.

For me what ended it was the 1 inch thick gum tree growing in the single track that instantly turned me into superman when it became permanently hooked to my bar end. The first thing I did when I got home was to remove them and throw them away.
