My Hero 3 also has preferred recording option. One button start, another button record

Not quick start, but just as good.

Plus with the app, it's easy to see what's being recorded.

I've had mine for over a year now and use it daily without any issues. It's mounted to my motorbike helmet, over 100km/h it does strain the neck a bit.

I've got a 64gb card in it which gives you 7,5hrs of recording. Battery lasts about 3,5hrs at best.

Got some great footage of weekend rides with the supermoto guys where some have commented they cannot tell the difference in quality between my Virb Elite or a Hero 3.

I do find the actual camera software to be a bit iffy at times, it splits some recordings at random and the software is the latest on the camera.

The VIRB app for the iPhone is cool, I haven't used it except when I had workers in my office to watch they don't anticipate any 5 finger discounts. Basically watched what they were doing from my phone, range was pretty decent.

The new camera software is ***, I find the GPS sync with the video is out by a few seconds where on the previous version it was fine.

Basically when overlaying the data on the video now I have to manually sync it where before I didn't as it was perfect. Noticed this on all my video lately, data shows I'm doing 66km/h at standstill and then it slows down to a stop.

This kind lady wanted to have a chat with me, I declined the interview.

what is the preferred setting for taking videos? I'm only getting mine on Tuesday and are a bit worried that I might not have sufficient time to play around with it, before using it on my canopy tour

720p at 60fps is perfect in my opinion

Anton, I think I think you will find this more useful. I am going to go buy the extra mounts from Garmin, andgive. This a shot in the holidays

Harryn, I just bought the Virb and can't get my head around the editing software. Is there anywhere I can download a manual for the Virb Edit software? I can't find one anywhere?

Cheers.

I have no idea, sorry. I have not even tried that yet. Have had mine for about 3 weeks, but am only taking it for its maiden run tomorrow - will try edit some time during the hols.

Thanks. I did some experimenting this morning and filmed the drive(!) to work. The editing software seems very limited compared to GoPro Studio but perhaps that's because much of the processing is done on the camera. Removal of fish eye effect for example. I am just finishing it now and have to say I like the ability to add a map to see your position while moving. I don't think it will replace my GoPro but it's early days yet. Let me know if you discover anything helpful and if I can help in any way.

Cheers.

Hi.  Any idea on how to change the speed when editing?  I've imported g-metrix data from my Garmin Edge 510 and it keeps displaying the speed in miles although all my settings on both the Garmin and Virb is on metric.

As far as I can see that is one of the settings on the phone. you go to "system","units" and set it to Metric. I haven't yet looked at it in an editor but it looks like that is the way to go.

Meanwhile, has anybody managed to include a map overlay in their video? I can't figure out how to do it or even if it's possible.

Google searches reveal that it can't be done. Kind of negates my whole reason for buying it if true.

In VIRB Edit you click on "Menu" in the top right. Then click on "Settings". Right on the middle on top of the screen you will see "General Units G-Metrix". Click on "Units" and there you can change the Distance & Speed, Elevation, Temperature, Weight and Liquid Volume.

Maybe you can try out the latest version of the VIRB Edit software. Version 3.3.2 was released a few days ago: http://download.garmin.com/software/VIRBEdit_332.exe

I want to use my Virb as a dashcam but can't find any suction mounts to mount it on the windscreen. Has anybody any experience with this?

Yes, use a flat sticky mount and stick it under your rear view mirror.

Mine is barely noticeable there.

Ja, that's what I want to do but I can't find the correct mount for it. Do you use the GoPro adapter? Can you please send me a photo of your mount or tell me which one it is?

Cheers
