Had a minor crash the weekend and my helmet and glasses are banged up and broken.

Need to take it to have it assessed and quote a replacement, what place in joburg will assist?

  • Its a bell helmet ( don't know which one)
  • Jawbones

Jawbones I don't mind repair but the helmet I believe is a must replace from what iv read.

Insurance recommended cycle lab, but im scared they give me a cycle lab voucher and then I only get some of my value as I find cycle lab expensive.

any alternatives? im in Randburg / Roodepoort area

They may recommend cycle lab but just ask them directly. They will normally let you go to any cycle shop you like, as long as the quote/assessment is on a company letterhead ad has all the shop info.

Shops have actually always dealt with my claims, doing all the calling and back and forth. I got my stuff from them but it was nice of them

BELL have a crash replacement policy - so a replacement helmet is a lot cheaper - Take original proof of purchase back to the selling dealer and the damaged helmet, fill in the form and go from there.

Yes you only pay in 30% of the replacement value if the helmet is less than 3 years old and you have original proof of purchase

I don't understand your concern. Cyclelab will give you a quote to replace your damaged items. Irrespective of whether they are expensive or not, the insurance payout is based on the quote. You will still have the money to replace your damaged items.

Go to a cheaper place for a quote and the insurance will give you less money.

Either way you will get your items replaced.

I fear you misunderstand the point of insurance... They will pay for you to buy a replacement helmet, not just to give you some money to go bicycle shopping. It makes no difference where you decide to go (get a quote elsewhere and they might still give you a Cycle Lab voucher if they have an agreement with CL).

The shop should quote you for the crash replacement cost as others have mentioned and you claim that amount from insurance.

CL has limited stock ( mostly roadie ) and are very expensive.

I want and need a full cover MTB helm, myne is say insured for R100, insurance gives a R100 CL voucher I will end up getting a helm that is worth 80 as they are so expensive, plus il end up with a helm more focused to roadies.

If I use another shop I can get a helm to my liking that is same value as as my previous one but might be better.
