Don't know your current pressure or weight, but I am between 95 and 100 kg and run on 9 bar, 8 at the very lowest and at this weight a cat eye will destroy my tire and tube, maybe even the rim. So I avoid all debris, if I can.

I have had 7 punctured in one ride, most frustrating. Well it was on a 300 km ride though.

I thought i would get most punctures from glass considering the amount of broken glass on Durban roads...however both punctures where caused by sharp pieces of steel...make sure you check inside the tyre and remove the cause of the puncture.

There are lots of cuts in the tyre which I assume were from broken glass...i was told to use super glue to repair the cuts.

Check the inside of the tyre whenever I get a puncture. No idea what caused my punctures on Tuesday. Just that sound of the rapid deflation of the tyre, which has now been added to my "I don't like this sound" list.

You will begin to enjoy that fiery feeling in your lungs and legs. ohh and chasing strava KOM. Just a word of warning... That black commuter guy on a rickety BMX is actually a lot faster than you, don't try and race him for your EGO's sake.

so are that group of girls

Dump the tyres, tubes and rim tape.

Fit Gatorskins, Conti tubes and new rim tape. It will cost a few bucks, but your puncture problems will be over for good

you guys are making me so jealous....

I can't remember when last I went for a cycle on the road, other than around the block with the kids ( I do not even get dressed up for this anymore)

Every Morning I spin... whilst looking longingly at the ritchey, and I can feel its willingness to go out and enjoy the road and the gravel....

Hi and welcome to the world of cycling.

It's always inspiring to hear of people beginning there journey into the cycling community. Don't be disheartened by the punctures. The infamous "doesn't get easier, you just get faster" applies to both riding and changing a flat ????

If you are running used tyres and they are showing signs of wear then a new set is advisable. Gatorskins have a good reputation but pricey. I personally use the cheaper options. However, Should you need to part with more money please ensure you go for 25mm (width) instead of 23's for a much more comfortable ride. Also when riding try and keep your bike as close to wherever car tyres go, anywhere else and you'll be sure to pick up all sorts if nasties. The good news is your sit bones will harden with time in the saddle, so please persevere, enjoy and ride safely.

@Falco - That is my planned upgrade at the end of the month.

I did manage to do 25km today without a puncture. So I am counting that as a win. Fitness levels are going up, albeit slowly, but then again Rome wasn't burnt down in a day or something like that.
