Can't find the article I am referring to but I found these in the meantime.

Happy reading:

Also found a MTBR thread of a crazy guy looking to cut his Anthem swing-arm down the centre, extend its width to fit the 27.5+ tyres. He abandoned the idea though.

Probably not. Only MY16 29ers will have this design in mind and even then only a handful of frames do offer compatibility. VIPA Trail and Scott Genius Plus are two I know off.

Keep your bike and fit super wide rims. I have 35mm internal rims on my 650b with 2.35 / 2.25 tires and the increase is already more than enough.

THIS.

The difference is huge. HUUUUUGE.

I'm toying of the idea of having a better wheelset built later this year and was considering WTB's Asym i29 or i35 hoops.

Now, say I go for the i35, is it possible that you could run into frame clearance issues? Is there a way to calculate or guesstimate how much wider the tyre would be on such rims?

tyres wouldn't be wider at the widest point, they're wider at the bead, which gives them extra volume. So no, shouldn't have tyre clearance issues if you're using the same tyres. A 2.35 would still be a 2.35 as that width is measured at the widest tread point, and the circumference stays the same 'cos well, the circumference can't increase.
