What is my bike worth

R8k max.

It's an old XC 26er. There is virtually no demand for bikes like that, outside of beginners looking to get into MTB'ing.

Considering you plan on selling this to a friend, do the guy a solid and sell it for what it's worth. R6-8k.

That would include the upgraded wheels as a max. 26" wheels have no value - wheelset is unlikely to be worth much more than R1500.

WOW !!!! Even at the low end $ 922 @ R 16.50 to the $ it is R 15213.00

But your bike isn't spec'ed anywhere close to that. You could get a newer (2011/12) Anthem 29er with full XT for around R15k as a comparison (irrespective of yours being carbon, it isn't comparable in any way to an Anthem 29er).

I will buy the wheels for R1500 just for the hubs

To give you an idea a mate of mine picked up brand new Easton Haven carbon wheels for R4k. From a shop. With warranty and everything.

Unfortunately 26ers have just lost the value. at R15k I would much rather take a 2nd hand 2013 Anthem than pretty much anything (currently riding one so a little biased).

Selling it whole, maybe ask for 6k and be prepared to negotiate, or split it up and sell the components.

Rightly or wrongly, the market for 26" XC bikes is limited to the uninitiated, the naïve or (in exceptional circumstances) enthusiasts looking for something collectable.

What it is worth is what a person is prepared to pay for it. It unfortunately has very little to do with what you paid for it or what new one would cost. Like everything fashionable, it also has very little to do with utility.

Orbea is a small brand in SA, without being a niche one; the technology is outdated; the build kit (from what we can see) is not exceptional and old; from the pictures the bike does not look brilliantly maintained.

All this mitigates against getting top dollar for it and if you were to advertise it on the BikeHub at R6k-R8k, you would struggle to sell for that.

I think that the utility value of this bike is certainly much higher, but the market price is unlikely to be anywhere near it.

Mate sold a trance x2 26 with full slx and some XT , decent wheels and brake upgrade, struggled to get 5 for it. Unfortunately , no matter what the novelty t shirts say , 26er really is dead

Thanks for all the inputs. I will discuss it with my friend and see what he is willing to pay...... bikes are just like cars NO (very little) second hand value!!
