or wear a bullet proof jacket while cycling....the policeman in this shooting incident...shot at point blank range in the back...thank goodness.

I mentioned in the other thread, if that policeman was targeted for his firearm then I guess that answer this threads question,

A trained , armed standing up right policeman caught off guard didn't stand much chance in fact if you watch the video everyone will be thinking DAM HE IS LUCKY, now do the maths on a bike

After watching this video...it has made me realise how screwed we are in this country...police officer...with occupants in the car on a busy highway...people ask me why i havent collected my British passport and left this country...my answer is simple there are "still" too many good things here...

the only place in the world you can drink and drive...text and drive...drive at 300 km/hr on public roads...you have to count to 10 after the robot turns green...where solid lines are used so that the taxi can get to the front and push in at the robot...where you have to be martial arts ninja to ride a bike if you want to keep it...where police stations are held up and robbed...police officers are shot at point blank range in the back by idiots who cant even load a fire arm...on a busy highway with people in the vehicle while he busy writing out a fine...just kidding...it is not as bad as it sounds...

There is a lot more to this country than the few criminals...murdering around 45 (17000 per year) People day...a small percentage of the population..

There are leka mtb trails ...roads full of glass and potholes.

By the way its friday...Have good one [emoji3]

This video reinforced my view, if you carry a firearm in public you need to wear a vest. Also pull out your gun at the first sign of trouble and keep blasting until the threat is gone. Otherwise leave the gun at home.

I got to know a bodyguard for the CEO of one of SA's main telecoms companies and after asking him for advice on carrying a knife on my rides his advice was don't.

This guy has worked across the world and trains several times a week in hand to hand combat including using knives where they actively try to attack each other. Even with years of experience and confidence their odds are 50/50 in a knife fight with someone who is used to stabbing others. Apparently the chaps who are going to attack you practice stabbing frozen sheep carcasses and know what it feels like to stick a blade through skin. Us sane folk will most likely not grip the knife tight enough, not stab hard enough, and end up sliding our hands over the blade as a result.

You may feel safer carrying a knife, but I believe it is a false sense of security. Our experience of violence is generally limited to highlighting bad grammar on forums.

This doesn't sound accurate at all. An experienced knife user knows that stabbing someone, especially deep, will have the knife blade sucked to by the flesh, and pulling it out is quite hard and makes a sickening sound. Secondly, an experienced knife user knows that you don't stab, you slash. You slash at them until they are out of sight or dead.

Look how contempt he is with the routine pull over. He doesn't look up once to survey his surroundings and he doesn't approach the car from a safe angle. Yes, he is definitely lucky he was shot in the vest, because he is a lazy contempt cop.

"Trained" should be used fairly lightly when referring to cops. The attacker was aiming to steal the firearm, just as they aim to steal our bikes, and should the officer not be armed surely he might have not been attacked but also he would not be able to defend himself. So the answer seems to be to distance yourself from what can be stolen, which in our situation means to stop cycling. Yes being armed can become a 2 for 1 deal, but it does also place you in a situation where you might be able to protect yourself and those around you

Well trained is a relative term...you can train 4 times a week for an hour or 4 times a week for 2 hours....it's not like cycling where you train to get fit...it's about muscle memory.....

OK, ever had a gun pointed in your face or close range, i never mentioned selling bikes, I had a guy come at me with a panga swinging missed me hit my rear so hard it buckled dont know how i cycled for 400m before my legs seized up it was bent so bad, still i cycle so im not saying sell bikes, im saying "trained" as in  a policeman in SA, im sure he has either been in a shoot out or around those situations and mentally he is more prepared than most, he does not look like a rookie, could he have been more aware YES, are WE more aware on a lekke flowing single track or are we concentrating on the moment. my point is im sure he has more experience than most hubbers wanting to carrry,,,we go to the shooting range at least 6 times a year, go ape shiit, me personally i would have dropped a load with that oke standing aiming at me with clear intent, also keep in mind standing up compared to seated on a bike clipped in,,,,,,,lastly the lack of aware i said could be better but ever stopped next to a busy highway and chatted to someone in a car trying to get, ID, address and all the rest, you pretty much have to focus on task at hand

The perp's MO also seems common - pretend you are minding your own business, then get up close and try to disable the victim without warning. In the video the shooter first walked past minding his own business, then he could see the policeman was not paying attention.

That's why they having so many women attacked in Europe. They know the laws and know that you can't even carry pepper spray.

In Belgium cops can't even raid houses at night or early morning.

Just more towns having same issues.

Women now getting touched up at swimming pools so groups of migrants getting banned.

It's disconcerting to see how soft and unprepared Western Europe is for the "refugees" and "asylum seekers" here. The Europeans are going to have a lot of trouble from a social and community aspects. The people arriving here think very differently about societal norms, women's' rights, etc.

What makes me very, very, uncomfortable is that a recent report suggests* that between 66 and 75% of the "refugees" and "asylum seekers" are young males.

What is your back ground regarding knife fighting, general protection and law enforcement? I need to improve my vigilance and knowledge in this regards; were can I go?

(sounds kuck in english, translate directly to Afrikaans and it will sound better :) )

Hi No Hare,

Besides some training in a martial art form and a short course in krav magra (highly recommended), all other knowledge came from discussions and advice given by family and friends in the army and law enforcement.

My personal knowledge in self defence with a knife came from a 3 day krav magra self defense course. It was hosted by a reservist who also teaches forensics at wits, if memory serves.
