2016 motivation for getting lighter and faster

I'm sure you know how your body reacts to training and recovery.

Also going to hard this late may not have any benefit. Focus on some quality, circuits will be good to get some speed in your legs.

No need for 100km + rides on the weekend.

Rest next week, but turn your legs on Tuesday/Thursday with some high cadence drills. And an easy 30-45 min spin on Saturday will be good.

Also don't stress too much about your weight now, you need to eat quality foods and good carbs, not "diet" food that's lacking the nutrition you need.

No dieting for me...started eating the correct food...cut out sugar and junk....no more chocolate muffins...biscuits...chips...fizzy drinks...etc etc...most important...packing lunch...so no take aways.

Day 4...102.3 kg...so close.

100%! There are many hopes of a good race time dashed by also trying to lose that last kilo or two in the last couple of weeks....mine included.

It's better to play a positive head-game by looking back at what you've lost in the last few months, rather than that last bit still to go. The same with remaining training; revel in what you've done to date and don't stress about the last few days...or kilos.

I got flu 2 weeks before this year's Jock and didn't ride at all in the penultimate week. I started fretting about weight and training but once I started looking at my training diary, (all those kms and metres of climbing and intervals done etc etc), I relaxed. Did a couple of short rides in the last week to clear the snot out, so hardly 'real training', and had a blinder of a Jock! I doubt I would have felt so fresh if I'd followed my 'usual' taper.....(nutrious) food for thought!

even though the wheels come off far to often.

And there is nothing wrong with that. Weight loss isnt a one and done thing. It is a constant war and you are allowed to lose little battles here and there. The important thing is to keep on keeping on!

Great attitude you got... to have dropped all those weights is awesome ...well done !

Just join a club and get training buddies...best is if you love your bike the weight will drop itself..follow a healthy eating plan and the rest is history...don't be tooooo concerned with the weight though as if im not mistaking Jan ullrich weight around 92Kg I heard one year and he got serious power... loose your weight healthy and with training and youll be as strong as a horse !

Im experimenting my weight loss also for the last 7 weeks... seems the shorter faster rides is doing the trick if you do them often ! Maybe give it a shot and see what works for you... but as I said just enjoy what your doing and the weight loss is a good side effect!

day 7...100.7 kg

and as of today

4 th fastest cyclist in the 45-55 age group and

2nd fastest in the 95 kg plus group in 1 segment of the circuit.

effectively making me the fastest 50 year over 95 kg on that segment between country club and blue lagoon.

i know what i did wrong...i went into the segment too slow...and increased my speed from 40 - 60 km/hr...i should have made sure i was already doing 60 km/hr by the time i got to the segment...we live and learn...still have 2 and a half month to achieve this goal...just need to put in a little more effort.

4 days days still to go and only 800 grams to loose :)

Nice! Whats that magic you doing? Wish I could get that kinda loss going!

anyone can...you just have to commit to it 100 % not 99.99999...any cheating in any form will affect the loss...for example 1 day i had 3 bananas instead of 1 the drop was slight on the that day.

by the way in all the pics above i sucked in my gut for the pics ;)

Hahaha, gut suck and blue steel look. You doing some relly good work keep it up the 90's are in sight. Against all advice I got on the scale this morning and it seems im 2kg down. So I suppose it's not going as bad as I thought.

Well done Ian. Seems the pressure of Shova being soo close has helped get the mind in check !

Keep it up.

My next big concern is the 947, that's gonna be a "Challenge"
