wide range ten speed cassettes: Rapide / Praxis Works

Ten Speed Conversion kits: Kalbo / cSixx / One up / Kitted

You have a ton of options. I am a fan of using a purpose built cassette like the Praxis.

I believe that a 34t upfront with a 11-40 or 42 setup is perfect for almost all terrain. You start spinning out at approximately 58 km/h which is more than enough speed for a mountain bike and the climbing is very easily doable for most riders. I think Kitted has recently launched their 40 and 42 extenders. Give them a call or visit their website and order there.

Thank you will go have a look!

Thank you! Will you be changing over any time soon?

No don't think so. Will probably ride it till it breaks and then look at changing it or possible going all out with 1 x11.

Riding on a 1x10 with 34T front and 11-36 cassette. Would like a granny 42, but it's major expensive for that Praxis cassette, so at the moment it's just htfu and climb faster. I will be trying out an oval 34T ring once mine is finished. It might be enough for the tough climbs in any case as they say its a 32T and 36T combined ...

I used a 32T front with an 11-34 cassette at this weekends Oak Valley 24hr event.

It was hard work, but that long drag up to the top went much faster than if I had a real granny gear.  It wasn't possible for me to go any slower...

I did the Thaba 24hr on a 32 * 11-36, managed 305k's and there was once or twice a REAL granny may have been nice to have but like you say the drags had to go faster than normal :)

Hi all.

Looking for some advice:

I've recently changed from a 2x10 to a 1x10.

On my 2x10 in front ran a 38t and 26t and at the back 11-36.

I've now converted to a 32t in front and 11-40 at the back.

I noticed when pedalling down hill I get to about 35km/h and I am spinning out like crazy, on the flip side climbing isn't a problem or on the flats.

The advice I need is:

Is this normal or should I change to a 34t in front or is there something that can be done with the cassette?

If there is a link where this has been discussed previously please post it.

Thank in advance!

I ride 34t with 11-42 on a 29er. It spins out quite quickly 'cos I don't have high cadence. What's worse is, if you ride a mix of dirt road, open trails and tighter trails like I do, the 11t and 13t on the cassette wear out quickly, long before the rest of the cassette.. And nobody sells them separately.

what can you do?

1) change 32t to 34t

2) change 40 at rear to 42 if required, or,

3) convert to XD driver and use Sram cassettes that give you a 10t as smallest gear ( 10% longer top end than a cassette with 11t).

4) Go back to 2x10....what I'm gonna do when my current 1x10 cassette dies.

Yeah 34T on 11-36 works for me, as I have a high cadence of 90-100 where I feel I'm pedaling optimally, only spin out rarely on tar, but I never go faster than 45kmph pedaling in any case.
