Sourced a Sram "spiderless"crankset sans the chainring. Next step is to hunt one of them down, hopefully by the weekend.

Then my conversion can commence.

the CSIXX good, and fairly good priced... Evobikes also have some lovely deals on spiderless chainrings,

PS! Kiwi, i have asked before any development for Spiderless chainrings, SRAM GXP and BB30

Hi Meezo,

The Direct Mount (SRAM compatible) chainrings are in production and we should have the delivery date soon.

Managed to source a genuine SRAM X Sync 11spd 32T chainring (the one with the 6mm offset). Will collect tomorrow, then my conversion can be completed. Planning on testing it Sunday up Dorstberg and the Bloemendal Mast.

NotSoBigBen, is that a type 2 or clucth derailer you used?

Mine is an X0 type 1 derailer, just want to know if I should start looking out for a clutch derailer.

My conversion starts this afternoon.

Type2/clutch but having said that I rode the same course with my Rush this morning with, albeit a 1*10 drivetrain (34*11-42) , a normal Shimano RD (non clutch) and no issues at all. Worth trying it with your existing Rd I reckon unless you are riding DH?

Completed my conversion over the weekend, had the maiden ride yesterday on the Upper Bloemendal trails (lots of climbing and some rocky descends)

Worked a treat, managed all the climbs with relative ease, even the climb up to the Mast.

Shifting is still a bit iffy on the lower three gears (11-13) on the downshift. Shifting up is crisp and immediate. Still need to spend some time dialing it in

.

Going up into the 42 is no problem, but going down causes a bit of a rumbling/graunching noise, suspect it is the jockey wheel rubbing against the 42t sprocket. You will see there is very little gap between the jockey wheel and the sprocket.

Hi Wannabe,

I think you need to turn the B screw on the back of the derailleur in a turn or two. This will increase the clearance between the cassette and top jockey wheel and speed up down shifts.

Kiwi, I got the B screw (the longer one you supplied) screwed in all the way. That is as deep as she will go. :whistling:

Hi Wannabe,

Can you send me a picture?

Of the B screw screwed all the way in?

I edited my post above, pics now included.

Great pics! It looks like the rear derailleur is maxed out. Unfortunately I think this almost too much for the derailleur in this setup. The clutch versions of the SRAM rear derailleurs have a different offset for the pulleys so they can work with the larger rear cogs.

Go to builders warehouse or Mica and get a longer B screw of the same diameter

Eish, I hoped to get away without having to change the derailer.

GX10 spd clutch derailer a better fit?

Any SRAM clutch rear derailleur will do the trick.
