  • Spectacular valley and vineyard views
  • Ideal training race for Bridge Cape Pioneer Track and To Hell and Back

BENEFICIARIES

The Java is a fundraising platform for local schools and charitable organisations who in return provide event services. Beneficiaries for 2016 includes Robertson Preparatory School, Robertson Primary School, Goudmyn Rural School and Wakkerstroom Rural School.

MTB Route descriptions:

All riders with a Racetec chip will be timed.

8km: An easy non-technical fun ride suitable for children, perfect for families to do together.

20km: An ideal route for beginners with rewarding vineyard and valley views. Mostly jeep track with some single track, not very technical with only 250m elevation.

45km: An ideal route for intermediate riders, the route boasts an elevation of +- 750m. Spectacular valley & vineyard views!

85km: A grueling route for top riders only. A new route was commissioned for 2015 and it includes virgin territory and custom-built single tracks. The 1600m elevation will challenge seasoned riders, making this an excellent training race for the “Bridge Cape Pioneer Track” and “To Hell and Back”

10km Trail Run Route description: A most scenic route crossing the Breede River, along vineyards and across the Elandsberg Mountain. Don’t be fooled by the distance, the 350m elevation, and rocky terrain will make you look forward to the finish line. This is a self-timed event – no race chip needed.

Hands down the best race i have ever done... Did the 80km marathon and enjoyed every single pedal stroke. Unbelievable route and such a cool vibe afterwards at the prize giving.

And off-course TEAM EASYSKIPS (Tiaan and Wesley) with a double podium.

I did the 45km after no training the last 4 weeks put me off the 80km.

The 45km route was excellent but I couldn't help but wonder how tough 80km of that would have been.

Any easy miles on the 80? there must have been 6km of easy flat on the 45km.

Really enjoyed myself though..

Last time I did this was in 2013 and the then 75KM was killer. Took me 3 years to pluck up the courage to attempt it again.

I loved the vibe, the people at the venue and water points were great. They cheered and went crazy, very good vibe. I only stopped at the last water point on the 80KM and it was very well stoked. Kudos to all the marshalls and folks that made this possible.

The route, well that put me off to the extent that it might take me another 3 years before I ride this again. I was having an off day with too little sleep, however the 80KM felt like it had all the dull bits of the old Wacky Wine route. I actually preferred the tougher 2013 route.

The climbs at the end was a nasty sting in the tail for many riders, I only saw one other rider that pedal through it, he was also doing the 80KM. All the shorter distance riders were pushing. So much for "Strava Segement Downhill Home".

Luckily it seems that it's just me that feels like that and I am really happy to see others had a great time. Next year PPA will have an MTB League and this ride will be part of it. So maybe I will be back

The steep bit at the end was killer.

As mentioned, I was on the 45 route and rode the hills but felt very sorry for the Tots I had been passing after the last water point. They will probably never ride again after that. It was starting to get hot as well.

It was strange as normally the last 5km is flat and fast, I didn't mind it to much since I was on the shorter route, but the longer guys crawling home must have cried, and the kids.. like I said, they must have actually cried all the way home.

If you watch the video on their website you see the steep bits next to the vineyards are done at the start. Not sure why they switched it to the end. Saw shorter route riders pushing their bikes at 20km to go - so this probably was the end of their cycling career  :whistling:
