I was with them a few months and had a large (40k on a 90k vehicle) MVA claim paid without any problems. However my premium did increase slightly after the claim. I haven't had a claim since so it's hard to say. T

I also need to get my bike covered. Alexander Forbes looks good in terms of premium.

What is your excess as this also influences the decision?

Looking for some advice on what replacement value to quote for one of my bikes. It's a 2005 model Trek 8000 26er with standard spec for its time. It includes a Fox F80RL fork, full XT (brakes, shifters, drivetrain), and Bontrager Race Lite tubeless ready wheels. The other bits are pretty much all Bontrager and the frame was made from Trek's premium aluminium at the time.

I currently have the replacement cost at R25k but think this may be considered to be under insured in the current economic climate of costly bikes. Any thoughts on this? What do you think the replacement cost should be? If the bike was a complete write off or stolen, what would the direct replacement bike be from 2017's options (Trek or otherwise)?

Replacement would be the Superfly 7 hardtail, from looking at their website. Check with The Gear Change to see what the current retail price is. USD is at $2100 so R 25k is definitely too little

Looking for some input and advice again. It turns out the Superfly is not imported to SA and the closest Trek replacement that can be offered in terms of parts spec is a Top Fuel 8 at R43k or Top Fuel 9 at R50k. Given this is a full susser it isn't quite a direct replacement. So the question I am still trying to answer is what would a reasonable replacement bike be from the 2017 stable of offerings i.e. what should I insure my old bike for?

I would honestly talk to Trek dudes.

Maybe call SwissCycles and ask them the same question.

I have this, what would you replace it with. They should be happy to give you a replacement quote. Insure it for that.

What Patch said.

if you have a letter from the importer saying model x replaced model f, your insurer can't really argue that you are claiming for something better than you had. I have signed off on a claim where I know the guy is getting a much better bike, but the supplier (and a bit of research on the web) confirmed it as the replacement model.

Swiss Cycles should help. (I also know one of the marketing managers at Trek if you get stuck)

Thanks gents! I chatted to a Trek dealer in Cape Town hoping to answer the question but ended where I started and didn't really have a better idea of what the replacement model will be (the X-caliber 9 was suggested but this seems inaccurate to me). I will chat to Swiss Cycles and take it from there  .
