Running tubes on tubless road rims

Hey guys

Got myself american classic victory 30mm alu clinchers, i got a puncture and put a new tube in but every time i pump up and spin wheel there is a high spot, if i look there is a plastic strip on the inside of rims over the spokes which im assuming was for the tubeless, should i remove this then get a standard non tubless inner?

Is there any way around this? And can you use a standard tyre on a tubeless rim?

I did a race today with a tube on a tubeless rim. I got a big cut on my way to the start. Put in a tube- no problem.

Officially you cannot run a normal tyre AS A TUBELESS TYRE on any rim (but some Hubbers are doing that).

Officially you can run any tyre with a tube on a dedicated tubeless rim.

I don't think your problem is the strip. Sounds more like a tyre problem.

Don't touch that rim strip.... you'll regret it trying to locate another.

I've just set up my victory tubeless with a couple of 25c Conti 4000s with tubes in just to see if I likes the width before I ordered some more One Pro's.

Just a put in an inner tube and pumped it up. The bump might be part of the puncture issue?

Off the topic, but what is currently the best tube less road tyre to buy locally? (Value for money)

Do you use the same valves as with a mtb conversion?

Stans sealant?

How much per wheel? ml

This is with a brand new tube, i have taken it out and put back in like 3 times with same result, even tried a different tube, stupid question but are all road tubes std size, as all my tubes were for my old wheel all 700 x 18c tubes my rim says 700c 576?

Schwalbe One Pro is currently the best IMHO. Vittoria have a great one coming out but no one locally can tell me when, draw back is it's not very durable.

bike24 have them @ 44 Euros and evobike has them locally for +/-R1300 a pop (i think).

There is roadie specific sealant apparently but seems like a marketing ploy. I've just got stans. My wheels came with deep section valves.

Ok i see that the tyre isn't seating properly onto the rim, it's a brand new tyre though, any suggestions, i dont want this happening in a race as i have never had this issue before.

Just pump it up really really hard. I run tubes and 25c road tires on a set of tubeless MTB wheels on my disc roadie.

Seriously, stop panicking and pomp.....

Interested in an update. Do you likes the width, and how do you have 'em set up currently? I'm looking at getting the same hoops :)

Sunlight liquid, lather it up and pump to the recommended max. It should seat. Check your rim lip beforehand just to be thorough

Loving them. Actually got a new set of AMC Aero 420's which are wider still and tubeless as well. The width of the rims actually lets me run a 23c on them and they look like cyclocross tyres any wider and my Evo would be getting an inner chain stay polish. Good, solid everyday wheels with the expertise in Alu that AMC have build their reputation on. 1530g for the pair.

Very happy with the victory 30's and the Aero 420's roll very fast, great hubs. Look, I can't comment on the puncture angle as I hadn't a puncture on my tubed tyres for over 2 years. Tyres seems to be more expensive but the 1 Pro's that I'm running are some of the fastest rolling around and aren't your standard rubber.

Some tires just don't seat lekker.  Make sure that you don't screw the valve nut on before you pump it up.  Then pump to about 1.5 bar and go around the full circumference of the wheel squeezing the tire inwards.  Carry on inflating while pushing the valve inwards to make sure the tube is not lifting the bead. Should get rid of the bump.
