RIP fellow cyclists and condolences to friends and family.

Been reading the comments on some social media sites and the attitude of some drivers is shocking.

I really hope that the drivers blood was taken and that he is charged with murder and not culpable homicide.

News24 is reporting that a 33 year old male motorist has been arrested for drunken driving. The driver of the vehicle that crashed into the police car at the accident scene has also been arrested for drunken driving.

This is very sad news.

As for those commenting about cyclist on this road, they have more right to ride there responsibly than a drunk driver. (If this was the case).

Drunk driving is becoming such an issue that many of my broker friends are not insuring cars anymore, 80% of their loss come from single accident incidents on Fridays and Saturdays, but because the cops never prosecute they have to payout!

The policing is ridiculous, until such time that murdering drivers are made an example of people won't care.

I know of a person who got pulled over for drunk driving and he organized for his case to "disappear", it's disgusting.

We need to stand together on this issue as it affects us all.

This incident has hit me so hard. These 2 gents said goodnight to their families last night to wake up early and go for a Sunday morning ride because that is what they love doing, all to be taken out by an a#%hole who decided it would be fun to drive home pissed and have now taken away 2 men who had no reason for this to happen. The driver and any other passengers need to be held accountable to the highest degree, to look the families of 2 cycling loving men in the eyes and realise what they have done.

I understand that people may ask why they were riding on the M4 and they should have ridden elsewhere, but that stretch between Blue Lagoon and Umhlanga has become the main cycle route on weekends with hundreds of riders on the road. The yellow lane is a good 2-3m wide and more than sufficient for riders, and in my opinion is the most cycle friendly stretch of road in Durban, unless you take a drag up the road to Hillcrest area. This incident is completely avoidable and the municipality need to stand up and take action to stop any more families losing loved ones for absolutely no reason.

RIP guys!

There are a lot of stories doing the rounds...I was riding in the group when Richard and Jared were hit from the back...just behind me...the best at what they do have been assigned to this incident...the entire area is cordoned off and every piece of evidence is being analyzed...the driver of the vehicle was on his knees next to Jared and I believe this is going to haunt him for the rest of his life...and I am sure he will also be punished accordingly.

There are lots of comments about us being on the M4...when I went up onto the bridge another cyclist was hit by a motor vehicle on the bridge...so on the M4 off the M4 it makes no difference...lets hope we can learn from this horrific incident.

I lost an old friend Jared and a new friend Richard today...RIP.

Lets see if we can be realistic in these circumstances for a forum that is rightly intolerant of lawlessness. It is tragic, but what you say here is shocking - to me, at least.

What do you take as unrealistic?
