Just a question:  what is the issue with the escape route on the 30km?  If it makes the ride 5km shorter, then all the racers will take it.  This does not make sense to me at all.

Can I answer this when I can think again?? Last week rush and am in a zone.

Please come and say halo at the event. We can discuss this then! Last week rush and can't think any more! Thanks for bringing the whole family!

Also sounds silly to me at this stage, but it is last week rush and I can't think any more. Please come and introduce the family and we discuss this at the mtb. I know there is a reason...

Where do people generally stay for this event? Can we camp at the venue?

Hi there!

You can actually camp at the school, we made provision. But there is also nice places close by.

Please contact our Accomodation facilitator, Pieter le Roux. Number on the website under Contacts. www.breedemtb.co.za

I also don't remember any river crossings. I always find this event to be great fun and rather tough!!

New route, 60km, takes you over the river, Jaco. But it is not worse than previous years. Just longer.

Thx Louis.

I just wanted clarity in case some of the racing snakes make use of the shortcut.  My son will be hoping for a top 10 in that race.  I just was not sure how that would have worked, but that seems fine.  I will probably be mid-pack, and will hope to do the 30 in about 1h50.  I have been training the Steilte red route a few times, so I 'should' be good.

Next year I will tackle the long one.  Right now, my back will complain bitterly if I tackle it this year.

We will also have a marshal at all the Escape routes. Riders that make use of it, get a bright pink sticker. They still get a medal, but no timing.

Please note that the 30 km route is very demanding en technical.  Not and really not for a novice or beginner.  We do ride the route alot so it is not difficult anymore cause of experiences.

Just one really good tip going in the tech stuff is to lock up in front.  It really helps as you shall see.  We do it all the time and payed off many times.

Don't worry about the steep side slopes as Riaan Botha built that section before the devastating fire and the side slopes were covered by vegetation,  blinding it's steepness from you.

Thank you Louis for answering all the questions in my absence.

Will you bring development riders again?

Hi Carlen.

Yes I shall be bringing 5 of them this year. We shall be on the 30 km route. GravelandGrape 2016 route building took away alot of our training hours so we are not so fit as we want to be.

We are so looking forward to racing and riding your event, especially that new single track that Riaan Botha and his team built. It's really awesome. We have ridden it a few times and it is awesome. So much passion in mountain biking is really a blessing.  Riaan Botha is really a great trail builder.

Looking forward to Saturday morning.

Hi.

Did the 30 km route. Suffered up Boesmanskop as always. Brought a nice piece of farm. It will be taken further with the landowner to get my piece on paper, hehe.  Thanks for the guy's helping me out of the way and asking if I am alive.

Great event put together in my opinion.

Also did the 30km. Saw plenty of crashes so don't feel bad! Great event, really enjoyed it.

I did the 60km. Very well organized as usual with awesome new sections in the 1st 30km.

I would like to give the following constructive criticism:

In the last 15km odd there were few places where you had to guess which route to take. Luckily there were tracks to spot. This was only about 2 or 3 places

Nothing much happened in the last 30km. Just tracks through vinyards with 1 little single track highlight around 'n koppie. I got the feeling were just taken around the valley to make up the distance.

I think you can easily use the new tracks we did in the 1st 30km without deviating too much from last year's route. I found that route to be harder and more fun. Today was only about 905m of climbing according to my garmin. Think last year was more

Just my 2c

Still 1 of my favorites on the calendar ;)

Hi glad you enjoyed your time. I shall give it through to Riaan Botha as he is the route manager.
