Well things are not going Miway at this stage!

Damaged frame, got and report from the autherized dealer and the they recommend replacemet of the frame, contacted the manufacturer and they confirm also warrenty is not valid any more and also recommend and frame replacement.

Not Miway no,no Mr Ian will deside! But what they not realized is who will carry the warranty and liability if something happens while I'm on the bike, Miway are deffinatly not putting you where you were before the accident/damage.

Ladies and gents this must stop at almost R500/month premium just for bike insurance they surely can't just keep on repairing our bikes! You don't see them replacing vehical parts with refurbish parts, no if the bumper is damged it gets replaced with an NEW one! Now why can't they do the same for our bikes. If it is an high risk item, increase the premuim to make sure they will be able to cover when needed, or don't offer the service Miway! Surley Miway don't realize why we specify these items!

Meantime I'm with no bike, 36One is next month, Magalies Monster, Mokala etc.

Will my bike be ever the same...don't think so, will I be able to sell it afterwards....who will buy it if they know and how will I be able to do something like that to an fellow cyclist with the same passion!

We need to stop the current way of Miway's firtst solution/aim!

Sorry to hear you going through the same nonsens.

I know the feeling of "having no bike", although I do have 3 others the one that got damaged war my 'do it all' fun bike and that after 3 years of riding it I still had huge smiles everytime and said "I just love that bike". So I've really been depressed (there's hubbers that can actually back that up and my activity count on  Strava also indicates this... Haha) since the bike has been damaged and damn due to MiWay dragging this out it has been 4 weeks now with all the public holidays I'll probably only receive my rear triangle after the 28th somewhere (in total around 6 weeks without this bike then).

Why stop the current way they do things. Just move to a new insurer and let them sink themselves.

I see some newly repaired bikes being 'stolen' in the near future and in future when bikes break, they'll get 'stolen' instead of processing a repair claim.

Just move to reputable insurer while you can.

Or better yet, get a broker!

Will have see this claim through first, can't imagine someone will insure an damaged bike[emoji6]

That actually makes me wonder if another insurer will insure a bike that is fixed without a gaurenteed document coming with it...

Good question.

I would however be very clear when insuring a repaired bike, full disclosure.

What you do not want is to claim, they look at the bike and repudiate the claim based on previous repairs, which they can do.

Okay, Ive read through this thread and as financial advisor with 10 years experience in short-term, I'd like to make some comments:

1. An insurer is allowed to repair, replace or settle. Depending on the type of claim and obviously the outcomes, they have the choice of either of those three things.

2. The insured can challenge there decision should they feel the insurer has made the wrong decision, i.e instructed to repair instead of replace.

3. What an insurer cannot do is only have one recognised supplier/workshop to do reports and repairs. The insured is allowed freedom of choice as to where he wants to have his bike repaired as long as this repairer is reputable/approved. Again there can't only be 1 approved repairer. That is hogwash.

4. An insured can challenge a decision taken on claim provided he has sufficient proof, i.e. backed up by at least two independent reports which support his reasoning.

5. If the insurer still refuses, your next bet is to go straight to the ombudsman and if you have the right backing and proof that the insurance company are making the wrong decisions, the ombudsman will support you.

6. And this is the most important point of all. Stay away from direct insurers and make use of a broker. I cannot stress this more. Make use of a broker.

7. Cheapest insurance is never the best. There is a reason why it's cheap. So my advice is spend a bit more and go with reputable companies like Santam, M&F, Hollard etc for peace of mind.

8. Use a broker.

I have said this before and will keep saying it till the day I die.....

If you use a direct, do not moan when the claim goes wrong.

Point 3 and 4 is what made me realise actually 'here is something fishy on the go'.

Obviously MiWay has one main recommended supplier/workshop and I am sure it is not a one approved by Bicycle manufacturers.

The the point in blue is where my eyes when opened - when the swing arm was 'repaired' before the claim was even processed and I didn't know the process they were planning to follow for 'repair'.....so I had no chance to even get a 2nd or 3rd opinion.

ONE MILLION PERCENT.

Remember when Outsurance launched? They intimated that not paying the broker commission was the thing saving you the money. Like brokers are somehow ripping us off. But it takes YEARS to build up a decent short term book. AND. The thing is. If I have my facts straight Outsurance is part of the First Rand group which includes Dirtscovery.

The reason the direct guys are "cheaper" is because their repudiation rates are higher. Simple.

Has your claim been finalised? What did they do in the end?

Not always the case. Outsurance, for example, only use their suppliers for replacement and repairs. They are allowed to since it's covered in the T's & C's.

Yip, the paid me out the money for me to order a new swing arm from USA ...I had to remind them to add the VAT etc as well as they sent the 1st "Agreement of loss letter" without it indicating that costs - although I have mentioned that to them in the email I sent the quote from Intense.

But I am not going to leave it here 'because I got paid out' - this is wrong. Something is cooking and I think getting more cyclists stories together we can all find out what it is.
