Carol it seems that you're based in Rustenburg and your best bet would be to visit your local cycle store and ask them. Otherwise have a look at Van Gaalens just beware that trail markings are iffy and it might be a too technical for a beginner.

Never a good idea to cycle alone unless the trail have a crap load of traffic. Rather look for a local club that does rides.

I agree. From an attack prevention angle, I think most "closed site"trails are going to be safe enough, but if you ride on your own and wipe out badly enough that you are too hurt to speak/shout/move/attract attention, you could lie in the long grass for quite some time before someone spots you! We're all guilty of riding alone at some stage, but avoid it if you can.

Get hold of Hennie Fourie of the Rustenburg Multisport Club, he used to be in charge of the Mtb side of things.

If you struggle to get hold of him, go see Fareed at Cycle Zone bicycle shop, he will be able to get you in touch with the right people.

I would however not cycle alone in Rtb, NEVER EVER!!!!

the indoor trainer is the safest for a lone rider

This is true.

In four week period I do only 4 days on the MTB and 16 days on the indoor trainer.

Hours on the trainer spent varies as how I feel. One can get quite fit this way.

I obtained a best seeding of 27 in a race (marathons) and 29 as best average.

Just get a TV or something to watch during sessions.

None - you should be at home looking after the baby while your husband cycles. Well, that is what my fiance thinks anyway.

bwwahhaa, no doubt with a cold beer and a bucket in hand for when he gets back and you wash his bike.

@carol i don't know your area, I've only really started wandering around on my bike outside of bike "parks" in the last few months and so far all has been well, only think is stay away from very remote places, but nothing worse than feeling scared while on your bike that something will happen so getting hold of a local group is probably your best bet. Good luck. (P.s love that your hubby is looking after new baby)
