Pulled Hamstring

Need some thoughts from the experienced guys out there

I do a long a ride (80-90kms) every Sunday and try to spin twice a week.

However on Tuesday night I pulled my hamstring playing soccer, Long walking strides do incur some pain and I can feel it's strained, I don't think there's tear as I can stand, walk normally and I haven't had the need for pain killers.

When can I get back on the bike? (spin + long rides)

I'm trying to avoid the physio because it's R700 each time I visit.

Any other recommendations?

not a physio, But my 2c:

if it's not torn, then I'd apply the MEAT, not the RICE.

Movement

Exercise

Analgesics (pain killers)

Treatment

wrt to the first two aspects, Movement and Exercise, keep doing what you doing, but tone down the exertion: keep it mild. Massages are always feelgood, so that won't hurt.

Stretch as well.

Not a physio either but I think you can just get on with it.  Anything that doesn't hurt is fine, particularly spinning and road rides.  MTB maybe a bit more careful.  A bit of strapping for support might help.

I've had a recurring hamstring injury for years.

Physio helps me. R 700 per shot sounds steep .Shop around a bit.

Stretch , stretch ,stretch. Warm them up first. Microwave thingy from Dischem.Carefully and less when injured.

Roller. I have one with knobblies, but a piece of white plumbing pipe also works.

It's a frustrating injury. I Can be ok for months, then climb a ladder or pick up a child and it's back.

If it hurts a lot, a week or so off the bike. If it's mild ride but watch for sudden changes of pace ,catching your mates etc. Keep it steady.

My two cents.

Good luck
