Road bike wheelsets

Yeah, I have 50mm high quality Chinese carbon with Novatec hubs.

Use it for training 4-5 days a week, throughout the year

Braking surface is great in the wet.

Great all-round durable hoop

Yeah quality makes a big difference. I've got rid of all of my other wheelers because these just do it all for me. Now, I only swap tyres for racing/training requirements. Much cheaper than holding on the two or three wheelsets at a time.

Nice thread. I'm half in the market. Would be interested to hear more about carbon vs alu (new alu tech) and low profile rims vs ceramic bearings in hub - I can't afford both. I have R10k to burn, also have half a mind to get a power meter, in a previous thread the wheels won out...

Concept and darkhorse wheels are decent wheels but unfortunately they are not zipps however they are far better than alu rims. You can also have a look at Citec wheels and Token as well.

The above is just my opinion of test riding the wheels except for Token. Haven't had the pleasure yet.

A colleague of mine (weighing around 80kg) loves his 50mm Darkhorse but says in attacks/sprints, the flex is intense where they literally touch the brakes. Anyone else experienced this?

There is 9min difference between my Easton EA70 SL wheels and Zipp 303's on a 70km circular route. Rode a 2.09.45 with the eastons and did a 2.00.42 on Sunday.

Remember you must be able take advantage of the wheels in other terms " jy moet bene soos pistons he anders gaan dit nie help nie"

Hard to say as there's no local agent currently as far as I know

Zipps are in excess of 38 big ones at least

Fark! That is more that I laid out for my entire bike, and it is not a bad bike:

- BMC SLX01 Frame

- Easton EC90 fork

- Easton EC90 handlebars

- Campagnolo Eurus wheelset

- Campagnolo Record 11-speed groupset

- Fizik saddle

All bought as shop old stock, ex-demos and second-hand parts from the Hub.

Why not have a look at the TOKEN C22A's. Extremely light alloy wheels, just under 1 300g per set. Standard with TBT Ceramic bearings. I honestly don't know of a better wheel for under R 10k. Have a look at the specs and give me a shout if you have any questions.

We also stock loose TBT Ceramic bearings for a number of different brands. For those considering upgrading their current bearings to ceramic it may be worth checking if we have your required bearings in stock. We know which bearings most of the popular wheels take, so just let us know the wheel, not necessarily the bearing size.

What's max rider weight on a set of those , I'm 91kgs without kit?

That's right on the limit Brickleberry. They state the limit at 80kg, but leave themselves a 10kg buffer. I have sold a few to guys in the upper 80's with no problems to date.

Another option may be the C28A wheels. A little heavier but with the same hubs and bearings, but a rider weight limit of 90kg (with the same +10kg tolerence).

Think I'll hold out a bit till I drop another 10ks. Love your wheels though. The deep section carbons are just a touch dear for me currently

Sure, give me a shout when you're ready and I'll be happy to try work out a deal for you! As a matter of interest, our C50's have a rider weight limit of 110kg, and are super stiff.

Alternatively it may be worth your while to have a chat to Marius at Marz Cycles. He deals a lot in used wheels too, so will offer you a great trade-in price for your existing wheels against a set of new TOKEN's. You may be surprised at the deal he can offer you.

Cheers,

Warren

Are there any proprietary parts in terms of spokes on these wheels?
