Goosebay Posted September 12, 2016 Share Weather predictions are looking very good - rain this weekend and then the 21st - perfect. There is quite a lot happening so will be good to make a weekend of it. There are some municipal cottages on the lagoon (Uilenkraal) as well as camping. Loads of B&B's in town and surrounds. Other camping sites - Strandskloof and the Gansbaai campsite next to the harbour. Saxon Lodge offering 20% on the festival weekend. The prizes are cash except for the 65km which is a night at Grootbos (you will be riding though it so hopefully that will be enough to inspire you and to see the value attached to the prize - awesome place)

Goosebay Posted September 16, 2016 Share These videos have been posted earlier in the thread - so if you have watched them no need to do so again First climb and downhill of the 65km routehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i-2iF85I9xA&feature=youtu.be The avoca downhill section - this is part of the 45 and 65km routeshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imaUNhOu4ns&feature=youtu.be The second loop of the 65km. the first bit up to the witfoetskloof waterpoint is also done by the 45km ridershttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iq8sTiGPCwc&feature=youtu.be They are just to give a little taste of the ride :-)
PhilipV Posted September 16, 2016 Share My riding buddies last night convinced me to rather ride the 64km. I probably need to find more compassionate friends. And get some HTFU pills. Suidwes Boytjie
PhilipV Posted September 20, 2016 Share Right, my entry is in. I be asking my doctor for a prescription of HTFU pills. And remember kids. Saturday is braai day! Gansbaai also happens to be one of the better places to buy rooikrans. Mamil and Suidwes Boytjie
Mamil Posted September 21, 2016 Share Ha Philip - it's either a reflection on your friends or on my riding ability because when I told mine I'd entered this event I was told "Please tell me you've entered the 46 and not the 64". Right, my entry is in. I be asking my doctor for a prescription of HTFU pills. And remember kids. Saturday is braai day! Gansbaai also happens to be one of the better places to buy rooikrans. Goosebay Posted September 22, 2016 Share Checked the last downhill for the 45km last night - the trail faeries did a magnificent job with the sand - you now have hard pack single track till you hit the downhill. :-) For the adrenalin junkies - the rain humps are awesome jumps. One to wake you up, quite small and early on. Then a bit of a gap and then 3 in a row. The last two are quite close together. After you land the 3rd the road makes a left turn - use the rand hand bank as a wall ride to help you rail the corner - then watch for surprises all the way down. If you're not that way inclined - enjoy the view and roll them You can still enter on the day - there might be some late entry fee.
Mamil Posted September 24, 2016 Share Lekker ride. 45 was tough but good. Well organised and signposted. Beautiful part of the country. Will be back next year ... Maybe for the 60 but maybe not .... Another 800m of climbing may precipitate sense of humour failure BSG and HeidiB
Russell Stevens Posted September 24, 2016 Share I had the privilege of participating in the 30km race this morning. The race was very well organised, the route was excellently marked, the route was tough but the views absolutely fantastic. Well done to all those who participated in organising this wonderful event. There was a wonderful rapport between the participants who cycled around me.The entire event had a "breakaway from the city" Authentic Rural Feel to it. Thank you Mamil and HeidiB

Will be back next year for sure!Thank you Edited September 24, 2016 by Gravitasie Headshot and Mamil
PhilipV Posted September 24, 2016 Share I am a bit broken after that 64. Ma se kinders! It was a Hardebaard route out there today. Once again, the Gansbaai race does not disappoint. Mamil and BenReaper
jiggs Posted September 26, 2016 Share Was 1st on top of the big mountain, miss the turn on top and ending 1.5km down the other side. Maybe different colour signs with danger tape across the road would be better and the leading motorbike 100m in front of the leaders and not 500m ahead. Hard-core route with amazing prizes.See you next year
