Pikey Posted June 12, 2016 Posted June 12, 2016 Basically just looking to use the superior fork he already owns ha haThat stage is gonna be soooo sweet on that tb
the nerd Posted June 12, 2016 Posted June 12, 2016 That stage is gonna be soooo sweet on that tb I think the Zesty will be good with a MRP or Rev in 120mm .... hmmm
Pikey Posted June 12, 2016 Posted June 12, 2016 I think the Zesty will be good with a MRP or Rev in 120mm .... hmmmmaybe the zesty's geo and 120 outback actually might make the fox feel more compliant. But you know my take on the mrp....brilliantly sublime . Not that I'm biased or anything
Pikey Posted June 12, 2016 Posted June 12, 2016 I think the Zesty will be good with a MRP or Rev in 120mm .... hmmmRev 130 will still climb with out lifting.

Chubba Posted June 12, 2016 Author Posted June 12, 2016 I put a monarch RT3 on the back and a 140mm Pike set to 120mm on the front. Has made a huge difference to the way the bike handles and performs. Very very happy with the change. The other positive change is I put a 2.25 Onza Ibex on the front. A 2.4 would have been better, next time tho. Great tire.

Great tire. The 2.4 ibex is a very sweet tyre grip wise ,but if you going to do distance it's not ideal. You can feel the rolling drag compared to the 2.2. What shock did you have on before the monarch?

Great tire.I got confronted with the same challenges while building my TB. I really wanted to go with 130 on the front, but the SC dealer recommended (as per SC website) to stay within prescribed parameters (though they said running it at 130 is quite possible, but not pleasant, and might jeopardise a possible claim). My pike was then set at 120. I'm quite curious as how responsive/plush it would be going up to 130. Currently also running 2.25 Onza front/rear and would also consider going 2.4 with the next front tyre (when the rear is shot, moving the front 2.25 ibex to rear with new 2.4 front.

Why so ?
mtb impi Posted June 13, 2016 Posted June 13, 2016 but not pleasant ? Why so ?with reference to riding steep ups, trying to keep the front down.(apologies, I was vague with my choice of words)
Pikey Posted June 13, 2016 Posted June 13, 2016 with reference to riding steep ups, trying to keep the front down.(apologies, I was vague with my choice of words) really 130 would change the climbing that much coz I am currently seriously thinking about . 120 is not even close to lifting ,my thought process was 10mm on a slightly plusher fork would be ideal.
Captain Fastbastard Mayhem Posted June 13, 2016 Posted June 13, 2016 really 130 would change the climbing that much coz I am currently seriously thinking about . 120 is not even close to lifting ,my thought process was 10mm on a slightly plusher fork would be ideal. It wouldn't make a drastic difference to climbing at all. it's a 10mm difference in axle to crown measurement, which when considering an A2C of 540 / 530mm is a 1.8% increase in height. Just lower your stem by 10mm and it'll sort it out. Yes, your Head angle will be different by half a degree or so, but that's nothing in the grand scheme of things.
Pikey Posted June 13, 2016 Posted June 13, 2016 Is it worth putting on a 120 34 mm stanchion fork vs the 120 32 mm ...the same fork internals just different size stanchions ? Worth it or not really ? I am not heavy at all,but my line choice is not the greatest . Hence why I am considering the 34... Overkill ?

Pikey Posted June 13, 2016 Posted June 13, 2016 Never overkill i could of won bet there ????????????????Will I feel 120 vs 130 on the downs , If so minimal going up ? I know sc recommend 100-120. Yet this seems to one bike so many ppl increase above the recommended travel. I know it's not ideal warrenty etc. But surely it must be of some benefit if it seems more common than most .
