Given where they are I should think the aim has more to do with tourist revenue.  Rhino are amazingly fast and nimble when they want to be, combined with poor eyesight they are not something you want to surprise as the default setting is to flatten you, even normally placid white rhino.

So the integration of rhinos and cyclists is either a. a 'misinformed' thing to do, or b. an excuse to dump cyclists 'in the name of conservation'. When you consider the owner is a cyclist, and that they are marketing the place as a cycling venue, then you're left with a! Sounds like an 'accident' waiting to happen.....

I rode there the previous weekend after a long absence.

The blue has been shortened. The grass is very long and grass is growing over the trail

All hero signs have gone

Red is pretty much the same and in better condition than the blue. Only problem is that the idiots do have rhino on the route as I found out to my surprise when I came around a blind corner.

Yellow is the same route but I don't think that there has been any maintenance since hero left. It was not enjoyable as most the time grass and bush were slapping my arms on the single track.

I will not be returning.

Bleugh, really not what I was hoping to hear. I live in Fourways, so Heia was always super convenient for me, and I found all the routes fairly enjoyable for different reasons.

Guess I'll continue to avoid them. Don't feel like being gored by an angry rhino.

I can only assume these twits are opening themselves to massive negligence liability by selling a cycle product that puts untrained/unaccompanied cyclists in with wild rhinos.

Lots of people are genuinely clueless as the danger of Rhinos and life in general, imagine that person with their family/kids coming round a corner slap bang into an angry rhino that tramples/gores them.

The lawyers will have a field day.

Long story is here https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/140228-hero-adventure-park-at-heia-safari/page-12

Short and possibly imprecise story; Hero had agreement with landowner to develop and run trails, landowner sold, new purchaser reneged on deal, much unpleasantness and twattery, Hero seems to have walked away, new landowner trying to market the trails they put in plus spice up the adventure with a few rhino.

And now could you, as expertly, summarise this weekend's winning Lotto numbers?? :w00t:

Given my extremely poo track record I'm really not someone you want lottery advice from  :w00t:

All I ever won was some firewood I didn't want in a lucky draw once.

That's about Episode one in a nutshell.

Episode two will focus on how long it takes an ambulance to get to Heia when a cyclist gets trampled by a two ton rhino, called "Joey".

Episode three will be a tear-jerker and focus on the killing of a beautiful wild animal who did nothing wrong but was put in the wrong place at the wrong time by a moron.

This whole saga is just such a disappointment.... reminds me of what happened at Teak Place a few years back. Both parks have (had) such great trails but the land owners just can't seem to keep their ego's out the way of good business.

Let's hope none of this comes to pass, particularly when you review recent history......
