Hi I just purchased a 2016 Aluminium camber ? Is this the right bike for Cape Town ???as I always rode Giant anthem?

I am 1,85 and always enjoyed large anthem bike shop says I border line Large/ XL never been told that before but into long ride always suffer from lower back pain?

Obviously sizing is dependent on leg length as well. However, Specialized sizing is slightly smaller. In an Anthem X 29er you're well in the large size range, but in Specialized you're borderline L-XL. Just google sizing charts for both and you'll see. Camber is a very nice bike though, can't go wrong.

camber is a great bike, for sure.

As for size - at 1.85 you're borderline, but the Spazzes are generally long (well, when compared to old gen geometry) and you should be okay on a large, but better on the XL. If I were you, I'd test both. But for heaven's sake - please put a shorter stem on when you test them, especially on the XL, otherwise it WILL feel too big. And the standard stems are ridiculously long. They deserve to be ridden and ridden hard.

Looking at the geo chart, I'd be inclined to go for the XL due to the longer top tube, and the large being a bit on the short side, resulting in you potentially having to go for a longer stem (bad thing)

I'm on a bike with a 640mm top tube, and I'm 5cm shorter than you. Plus - the extra reach will definitely make the bike more stable on the downs and rough stuff, as well as at higher speed.

As for leg length being relative to sizing - only if you're going to be putting a dropper on. Otherwise it's irrelevant.

on Giant he's borderline L/XL as well. As for the Spez being "on the small side" - what are you smoking? They were one of the first to embrace the longer reach / top tube movement in their frame sizing.

Spaz Camber ETT & reach measurements:

613mm & 445mm (Large)

647mm & 471mm (XL)

Giant Anthem (current)

615mm & 441mm (large)

635mm & 459mm (XL)

I'm 1.86m. I run a large 2016 with a 60mm stem and 800mm bars. Works awesome. I would recommend 760-780 bars with a 70mm babars. The short chainstays and short stem put alot of weight on the rear wheel which might lead to understear for some

Congrats on your purchase its a great bike for anywhere.

My Anthem was stolen in December and I replaced it with the Alu Camber. It's a great bike - I am really enjoying it.

Prioritize a dropper seatpost, if you haven't already.

I am 1.81m and had a Med Anthem, which was slightly too small but the Large was too big. My Camber is a Large and is working nicely for me with the shorter stem and wider bars.

Your lower back pain could be from an incorrect set-up. Spend the money on getting measured and set-up properly (ErgoFit or the Specialized BG Fit).

All the comments above are 100% correct regarding the shorter stem and a wide bar. I'm 1.82m riding a 2014 Camber comp carbon size large with a standard 75mm stem that came with the bike and a 720mm bar. For some reason the cockpit always felt tight with the bars feeling to close. It always felt that I could easily fly over the bars, especially on technical down hill sections. I installed a dropper post to give me more room to maneuver, especially on the downhills. It helped allot but It didn't solve the problem entirely. I even considered selling the large frame for XL frame. I decided to go for a proper bike fit to hopefully solve the problem and they suggested a 90mm stem that totally went against the short stem wide bar belief. Guess what. It worked and it worked well, solving the entire issue for me.

Do yourself a huge favor and get a proper bike fit from Cycle fit or a similar company. It's well worth the time and money

1.87 and I ride an XL Camber.

Stem and bars lengths are irrelevant for comparison purposes as they depend on your personal physiology.

As many have said, get a PROPER bike set-up done. If you have a road bike do it at the same time and it'll cost you a grand for both. And you'll be able to apply these measurements to every bike you buy from that point onwards.

I have a dodgy back and all the aches and pains went away after I did the setup...
