Bit of a mission for R100 saving surely if you need to return them.

Hi, my first order from CRC. I'm buying a Thule bike rack. How much would all the import duties be or just VAT?

Do you recommend DHL or should std shipping be ok?

Thanks

Not sure about duties on thule items.

I used DHL, for fast effortless delivery, else your parcel may be delayed this side awaiting customs inspection and clearance. Some peeps have been waiting months.

How does the item's price compare to local prices after shipping is added?

add 15% to 17% for TAX at least...also look at bikeinn.com prices on there bike racks are very good.

Sounds like a decent saving.

To me the DHL is worth the extra money. Ordered items from the states before, using standard international shipping, the items reached our shores within 5 days, and then I had to wait another two weeks for the post office to do their thing. This was way before the shambles that the post office is today.

R1300 vs R2700 in SA. Add R600 for DHL.

Add 14% for VAT and add whatever % for duties. Not sure where that gets to, but saving ain't huge

If your bike rack is big enough (and I think it probably will be) or heavy enough, they (CRC) will send it by courier automatically.  It might not be DHL, but my experience with CRC is that the alternative couriers are just as good as DHL, if not better, even if they are a few days slower. [i've had issues with DHL using old addresses and phone numbers even though the correct ones were specified on the order].

Avoid the regular 'Royal Mail' though.

Placed order yesterday making use of the free shipping before reading this thread

Lets wait and see

No idea what to expect

Ordered parts, protective wear and also something clothing

Will report back

Not entirely sure how the process works when arriving in SA

Will SAPO contact you and request to pay tax/duties before releasing goods to?

Ordered to work address with the free delivery option

Clothing? AFAIK, that'll be duty alone of 40% plus....?

It's been a few years since I used CRC, but yes, if SAPO manage to advise you that the parcel has arrived, before they return it (happened to me!), then you pay at the counter before they release. If you can track it online when SAPO handle it, then my suggestion is pay regular visits to your local PO and 'become known' long before it arrives.......
