I am also a cross country rider .Weight s 100kg .I don,t see how you need anything other than a non downhill fork like RS sid ,reba,Fox 32 or a cheaper better performing Manitou .I have all 4 on different bikes and the best is the Manitou and then the Sid is pretty good .Sid cost was R12000. Manitou R4500 from CRC .I had the option to put a revelation on my Tallboy ,but went for the 120mm Sid instead

I think there is a lot of value in this statement.

Cross country riding can be 80% untechnical, jeep track or similar, if I commute from home I do around 40% Tar road before I hit the mountains, and then it’s just an uphill slog until I get to the 10% ST of the day.

As a downhiller I can understand having the best fork, I don’t want to waste money if I don’t have too, And the replies on this forum are changing my opinion, great input guys, at this point I’m leaning towards Revelation, but still not 100% decided.

Dude, we all know a Hilux is better than a Ranger  but that doesn't mean you should be buying it every day of the week.  Get the Revelation.

guess you never heard of the Amarok then...

Agreed on the damping - the 2012 Rev Dual Air I had was simply amazing. No issues with that.

But wrt me and the stiffness issue - yes, I did run the Rev at 150mm, and I didn't feel as if it needed to be stiffer / burlier / whatever, but - I'd rather have the burlier chassis on my bike. I'm a fan of over-engineering.

pretty sure the 3mm extra thickness and the benefits thereof isn't in my head... Even if it is an overkill.

Is it strictly necessary? No. Not at all. But do I want it? Yessiree.

I think beynd a certain point I would also go auto-Pike if money didn't matter.

But there's also the other side of that line where efficiency is primary.  And I think for the same reason we run 1x11 / 1x12 systems now I would go Revelation purely because the 75g matter on certain bikes and rides and they all add up.

I.e.  If my bike was an Evil the Following then Pike all day, everyday, even at 120mm.

If my bike is a Pyga 110 that I intend doing stage races and some XC racing on, then Revelation all day, everyday.  It's more efficient for that purpose.

Agreed, where efficiency and weight saving is one of the primary concerns. But then why not just go Reba @ 120mm?

But in the OP's case, his attitude to the weight in being "ONLY" 75g heavier suggests that the weight isn't a concern.

Interesting, what is the difference between the 120mm REBA and Revelation

I ride a Rev 130 on my Pyga, mostly fast singletrack, jumps, etc. The only time the fork feels under-gunned is when I'm hard on the brakes (I weigh 92kg). The bottom line is the Rev works perfectly well 90% of the time. A Pike would work better for that 10%, but it costs quite a bit more. It's up to you to decide if that's worth it for you.
