I saw some of the slams he took over the years and even with a helmet, they rung his bell good and proper. No doubt that without a helmet he wouldn't have walked away....

while i'm on board with wearing helmets, there's no helmet that i know of other than perhaps the Hovding inflatable helmet, that can prevent concussions, which causes CTE. I'm hoping we are going to see a massive shake-up in bicycle helmet technology.

I recently watched the movie "Concussion" which dealt with NFL's denial of CTE, and the saga to get it recognised, along with the subsequent treatment and helmet design protocols. 

 

Really sobering considering how most of us grew up.....

Yeah its pretty close to home as I have had a number of big concussions, and probably my worst fear is getting a disease like this...

Wow... this is exceptionally scary! I have had many mild concussions, 3 last year(that I can recall) and 1 major one this year where I lost a good deal of time but my companions told me i was wide awake and functioning (i think the crash warranty guys know me well by now)...as well as major head trauma years ago in a car accident... This hits extremely close to home...

 

I am now even more grateful than ever for all the research and tech that goes into our pip-lids and will never be caught without one...

 

We may not take as many hits as a NFL player, but generally our hits are high speed and hard...

Im sure his family took some comfort in it helping them to understand things.

Its sad that was the case, that man was a legend.
