Morning Dashers

Had a good stage 1 and back ride this weekend. Thanks to Mud and some other seriously fit bloke.

I suffered a tad on the first big climb, but it got a little better from there. Turning back was a nightmare, so glad we don't have to do Black Mamba

It was great seeing, what looked like, hundreds of cyclists preparing for the dash. Getting real excited now

I went out on Saturday for what was supposed to be a 200k ride. After about 140ks I started cramping badly, and just couldn't keep any food down. Eventually after 180ks I had to to find some shade and phone the SO to come and get me.

I know it was probably due to the heat wave we have going, and becoming dehydrated (lost 4kg), bit I'm now starting to doubt my ability to finish this thing

You'll finish it. I think you had a bug if you started vomiting. Rest up for a few days and hydrate well, you should be fine.

Sias . . .

Did you get some tire-testing done?

(just out of interest)

As a matter of fact I did!

I got hold of 2 Ikon 2.35's and replaced both front and rear. They are a bit heavy at 752g each, but lighter than the Rubena Kratos and Arisun combination that I had on - by 40g...

I wouldn't say the difference was like night and day, but it did feel as if they rolled a bit faster. That might just be because I wanted them to be faster?

They are wide! It barely just fits in the chainstays and they look like + tyres.

This weekend is the last big mileage weekend and I might get a better idea on how they perform.

Thanx Sias, I hope so...

On the positive side; after having been off the bike for almost 2 weeks while I waited for my ischial bursitis to clear (did not go the cortisone route), it really didn't feel bad. I did change over to an Assos bib (thanx Patch) - felt really weird, but was a lot better than my Craft.

Sias.

Thanks for the feedback.

Where did you get the Ikon in 2.35?  (perhaps send me a PM)

I have only managed to get them in 2.2

Give some more info after your long ride if you don't mind.

There's a shop in Potch with a shedload of them at R650 each.

I did 160km on them on Sunday. Initially they were a bit hard and I deflated them to about 1.9 after which they performed well, ironing out the small irregularities. I've only done district gravel roads and they go really well on those.

For the price they're not too shabby...

I know of a solo place available and a rider for a two man team (to do the first stretch). PM me if you know of anybody interested and I'll provide the contact details.

OK, I feel like a complete failure after this weekend! Not one single kilometer on the bike! We planned a 215km for Saturday and a 160km for Sunday but when we got up at 2:30 on Saturday, it was raining cats and dogs and it only stopped raining yesterday at 11H00...

If I look at Strava, every one else was putting in huge rides - Warthog whisperer and Discoman and the guys in Swakop all going great guns over the weekend.

This weekend I cannot do my ultra distances because of work and family obligations.

My question to you guys: would 3 weeks be enough time to recover from a 370km weekend? I want to do the 370km on the weekend of the 19th November and then take it very easy on the weekends of the 26th Nov and 3rd Dec before I fly over on the 7th...

We are planning our last long ride for the weekend of 19 November and then a relaxed Kuiseb Run (stages 1 and 2) last weekend in November.

The guys doing the 'mini Munga' training rides with Alex in prep for the race are doing their last long ride (15hours) this Saturday - 2 weeks before the event

Hi Sias, I would not do 370 km ride 3 weeks before the Dash, my max ride on 19 November will be about 140 km and that is were I stop. Will be great to see you on the Dash again!

I can do 180-200km rides fairly comfortably, but have never done two consecutive long rides; like it seems most of you are doing.

Do you think its important, and should I try and fit sonething like that in over the next 2 weeks or so?
