It looks to me like their count-down clock is wrong? According to it, we're only starting at 16:00?

Got a good August behind me as far as riding is concerned, now to string the next 3 months together for some more good mileage and I should be set.

OK, i have officially started kakking myself...

Don't worry nonky, your two-man partner will brief you properly. As long as you get down Us-pass safely while still relatively light, you should not have concerns about breaking any further body parts. Oh, before I forget, when you reach the crest of Kupferberg, expect wind from the front.

I now understand why everyone rode like crazy at the beginning... to make sure you get down Us-pass in relative daylight. You are so much slower down there is you have to rely on your lights

The incorrect time is most likely attributed to the time change we had yesterday

They were two hours out, even after the time change... I sent Leander a mail and they fixed it on the same day.

To answer Frank 71 - after this weekend I'm not scared of wind, bring it on!  :whistling:  I have never had such a brutal day as Sunday, not even on the Dash...

Pulse, this is from the "lights" thread...

And if you hit the Us pass in the dark, you'd better switch on everything you've got! It usually gets darker at around 19:45 and there are 3 corners in particular that can be dicey if you don't have plenty of light. Philip came into CP 2 at 20:25, just as the last little bit of light disappeared; when I left 5 min later it was pitch black.

If you get to the pass just before sunset, you should be fine with a headlamp up to the checkpoint, from there on you can go the whole hog...

I really don't like wind... I don't mind hills... but wind...

Here is part of the climb to the nice and scary downhill. For me last year it was fun going down there as there were no cars and I could see what was going on.

I have never seen the pass in daylight...

We will make sure to have a look well before this year's race

Edit: I changes the title of the thread

How far is the pass from the start, ie how much time do we have to get there and over it?

If I remember correctly, its about 100 odd km into the race.  Those with more experience/better memory, please correct me

Note that you go down the pass

The top of Us-pass is 73 km from the start of stage 1 at the Grove Mall, plus minus few 100 meters. About 39 km from the start of stage 2. Remember that stage 1 is actually about 34 km and not 32 as officially indicated (the 32 km comes from when the Dash started at the Country Club until 2014).

At the cattle grid (almost at the bottom of the pass) it is about 89km from the start.
