I know, right? Every weekend and even weekday there are rides I'm not invited to. And when I invite certain people they have to wash their hair. Aaaaand they put it all up on the internet afterwards.

Not the hair washing.

So how do the people from KZN get invites?

Tim, why don't you just ask Rupert what you need to do to get an entry? Tell him you're really interested in this event and want to know what you need to do in order to make the cut...

So he has to ask Rupert to be his friend so he'll let Tim ride with them...not childish at all

Or - Rupert could let him know that he needs to place top 30 / 40 / 50 at the next Enduro to be allowed in. Not childish, I agree...

He actually says in his post 'enter now or befriend the right people'

Ladies, LADIES! Leave something for Friday please. Comrades has an entry requirement, and so does many other extremely tough events. Don't like it? Then ride something with no entry requirement. End-van-prent

Wait, what?  I was also under this impression...

So the same thing happened last year? You mean you had a whole 12 months to do the enduro series and get in the scene but instead you didn't and now it's time to spit the dummy out and moan?

Or maybe last year, they thought its a one off event? And it only popped up now again out the blue. (There is many ways to skin a cat)

Bottom line is if it is an open event there must set criteria, not make friends with the right people entry requirements.(or there can be just dont advertise it)

My take on this.

All the  AMA and WP enduro events are  catering for masses, they are concerned about getting as many people entered and keeping riding safe for all skill levels. Also limiting distance and climbing so that less fit guys can manage. This is great for getting more people into the sport but its not pushing the limits by any means.

The eselduro is our one event where there is no compromise in technical trail riding,  race distance and amount of climbing required. If im not mistaken only about half the guys completed all 5 stages last year.  and pushing up the trail most of us were actually scared of descending back down.

So in my opinion, inviting the top 50 racers that proved them selves in the AMA or WP series is a great start. Sure there are pinners out there who don't race, but their reputation will get them their invites im sure.

Here's a WILD idea:  There is no such as thing as MUST. The organisers don't have to create objective criteria.  They don't have to invite you despite you thinking it's your right to go and partake.  They don't have to keep quiet about the race.  They can create hype around it in the hope that more people use this as inspiration to create something of their own and take the sport forward.

But oh no, we don't build our own things. We don't take inspiration from other's ingenuity and contribute to the pool.  No, we wait for others to do it and then cry when they don't want to share or criticise when it's not exactly what we wanted.

Feel so heinously aggrieved by this that you need to start a thread about it?  Start your own event and invite whoever you want.

Oh, and as for the skillset required to do last year's event, I was on my way up for SS5 when Conrad Stoltz came past and said No Ways.  I turned around I rode home with him.  I regret that now, but having survived SS4 I was broken and didn't see anything good coming from taking on an even scarier stage with no legs left.  The organisers I suspect also expect that level of maturity - know when you've had enough and don't F it for everyone.  Ego's checked at the door please.

Oli Munnik, who must be one of the most versatile riders in SA, if not the world, made it very clear on one of the liasons that these were some of the gnarliest Enduro trails he's ridden.  He was stukkend and pretty white in the face coming down SS4.

So pardon the organisers for making a pragmatic decision in not inviting people they don't know or haven't ridden with.
