Notice Astana in position 2 and 3

Just dropping a couple of watts and disrupting the chase

And no other team contended, somehow

Ja, saw that.

Another interesting thing for me was watching the speed of Aru vs the speed of the peloton in that graphic on the screen - from the new DD GPS units they've all got on their saddles. Really adds a nice element to the viewing experience. In that last kilometre the bunch was going at 62 km/h while Aru's speed was 10km/h slower. I was sure he was going to be caught then. But they just ran out of tarmac in the end.

A lot of respect for that ride - very impressive. A champion ride.

But still won't change my views of you, raggazo.

Indeed..

At a stage I was thinking.. what the hell is he trying to do.. but well done very good move.[emoji122]

Ja me too. TBH very out of character - I never thought I'd ever see him do something like that: attacking alone from so far out and holding off the whole peloton, esp. in terrain that doesn't suit him. He was racing like a Belgian, not like an Italian :D.

"Today, the way he won says a lot. He's a spectacular rider and one that cycling needs."

Contador, on Aru

Ja Nee the Sardinian can ride hey. Perfectly timed attack. Couldn't believe he managed to hold on. Shows class and courage. I still wonder about his ethics but that was a stunning bit of opportunism and a fully deserved win. And AC is right in saying that the how is as important as the why and that it makes for watchable racing!

He's still young (25), he'll need to work on his TT if he want to win another GT against other top rivals in the future. (Ie. Quintana)

And his mental strength

I don't think we ever really appreciated Contador's mental stenght has been throughout his career.

Yup and the Spanish beef.

Ja ja and Froome's enhaler and failure to pitch for doping controls.

Let's not go down this route now let's actually just enjoy and discuss what we see...[emoji39]

We have seen Bert have to ride against his rivals and his own team.. We've seen him isolated so many times... but he keeps on fighting. No crying to mommy not to many tantrums I don't think..

Quintana too is calm and collected (most of the times.). You have gotta be tough as nails physically and mentally to be a top GC Contender.

EDIT.. to be a successful cyclist
