Ok, so triathlon newbie questions. There will be more in due course, no doubt:

1. Tri bars on a road bike (no TT bike.....yet) - a good option or not?

2. Trisuits - an excuse to show off your junk or valuable equipment - why should one use a trisuit as opposed to just changing with a towel wrapped around you?

3. Wetsuits - the only place that rents them that I can find on the interwebs is in Cape Town. Any suggestions for JHB? (Like a TT bike, buying a wetsuit is a future option)!

4. For all three of the above, any particular brands that one should look at/avoid? (Obviously trying to keep costs at anything less than the US space programme).

Thanks!

1.  Always a good option but it needs to be done correctly.  In other words get a seatpost that is more forward as well.  Get a setup done.  Two reasons for TT bars.  Aerodynamic and it will improve your run as the normal cycling position eats into your running legs.  When you move from normal bike to TT bike the most notable changes will be your run times.  However you need to do this now and start doing brick sessions so you get used to it all

.

2.  Trisuit saves a lot of time and is also more aerodynamic on the bike.  It is however personal preference

.

3.  Rent a wetsuit if 70.3 is a bucket list / once off event, otherwise buy one and get used to it

just a heads up for those who've entered. SANRAL is busy resurfacing the N2.

The surface is very rough in the spots where they have worked, this may result in a very uncomfortable ride. I'm hoping that they add another layer to smooth it out again.

I wonder if they couldn't change the route to the N6 which, if i recall correctly, is a very good surface?

N6 is good in some sections, the last 10-15 km is also rough.

If they move the route to the N6 they would not be able to get full road closure as there are no alternatives to direct traffic except if you do laps of some sort.

how's the training going? I've had two rounds of flu since September so I'm in survival mode at the moment.

the road surface was not fixed with another layer and is rough as hell. i suggest some 25c tires at lower pressure which should provide some comfort.

is it the whole freeway, or just sections?

Fanie, that Tribal Triathloans FB link doesn't seem to work - would you mind double checking it for me?

Anyone need bike transport from the Stellenbosch/Cape Town surrounds area. Let me know. We are taking a van and trailer, both enclosed and space for 40 bikes without touching to the event. R1000 per bike. Cheers

So I got the opportunity to buy a very decent Tri bike, full carbon etc.

Now I have 2 questions around the bike for the seasoned entrants.

1. I am quite strong in my cycling but considering that I will start riding with the tribike in Jan. Will it give me enough time to be comfy on the bike come EL?

2. The bike is fully tri and carbon with 50mm carbon wheels.

What other accessories or add ons should I consider putting on the bike, if any?

Then my last question, I am looking for a good looking tri suit. Troisport does not have anything different and bike basement also got rid of their tri gear.

Where can I go and get something that would not just be the norm?

I am in Jhb if it helps

Thanks
