Don't want to speak on his behalf, but I chatted to Zietsman about this and he said that the steeper head angle on the Cube (onconventionally steep by today's enduro standards) helped them quite a bit on the insanely tight switchbacks.

Maybe they can make me a bike with a head angle so steep you will basically be lying on your back. That should solve my fear of heights issue. :D

That would be slack, no?  Steep is more towards the XC bikes side of the wheel...

Lau won the Trans Savoie last year against largely similar opposition - perhaps better as Damien Oton was in it too, on his 650B bike. He's just very good at riding trails blind,  very fast no matter what the wheel size. Which is why I didn't mention it and focused on his gears and brakes :-)
