I was writing about mismatches in the four parts I have with exploded view - but I don't think that matters.  Scott probably has its own design.  Though none of mine chamfer inwards/downwards like the compression ring, the "Scott" marked ring flares outwards/downwards to match diameter with the dust cover which in my case closes the top of the stem. (Not dustcover at the top which the exploded view has)

Probably not significant, I'll find some sort of spacer - sure a bike shop must have them.

Fit spacers under the stem until the top of the stem is about 3-5 mm HIGHER than the top of the steerer.

Tighten the top cap bolt. No need to go mad.

THEN tighten the two bolts on the side of the stem to hold it all in place.

Regarding "crank bearing" squeak - it synchronises with the pedal position, and also when I am standing on the pedals.  So probably the suggestion of tightening non-drive side bolts - that makes sense.  So just an irritation till I sort it I guess.

Still not sure if cycling with headset play is a risk though ??

Why do I think you are about to meet me by accident?...... this will not end well for you.

GO STRAIGHT TO A BIKE SHOP AND GET IT FIXED -  PAY THEM FOR A LESSON IN HOW TO BE SENSIBLE.

Are you by any chance a Pathologist?

Trauma surgeon.... for my sins... :)

Thought it might be something like that. My Aunt is a forensic pathologist and she candidly talks about meeting people by accident.

It's a common expression.... we don't like meeting people by accident.... :)

Although I guess your aunt also meets a certain number of zombies post accident....

Probably - although medics to tend to refer to a number of conditions using food terms - that often turns peoples stomachs a bit... for example (not a bad one) caulifolower ears....

Black humour in an ER abounds.... and not amongst patients and relatives.... fortunately most of my patients are sleeping and I avoid relatives completeley.
