Groupset 1x 11 Advice for Specialized Epic 2014

Hi

 

I need some advice on what to upgrade to from my current 1 x 10 groupset on my Specialized Epic 2014. Was looking at either a XT or the NX options? I am however concerned about my free body compatibility with the Sram NX groupset. Does not have a big budget so would like to keep it as cheap possible without going absolutely basic.

 

Any advice would greatly appreciated.

NX cassette fits on a normal freehub, so no worries there. For me, I have no problems whatsoever with my SRAM GX setup. Even crisper than my previous XT setup, and hasn't had an ounce of trouble.

You could go SRAM GX shifter and derailleur with an XT 11-42 cassette and later when you can afford to replace your freehub with an XD Driver you can get a SRAM 10-42 cassette.

What groupset are you currently using?  If it is a SRAM X7 or X9 you could look at the Rapide 11 speed conversion as a very affordable entry into 11 speed.

I would recommend the e*13 TRS Cassette. 9T-44T, 5 yr warranty

Option 1: Keep current hub driver

 

1. SRAM NX;
2. Shimano XTR, XT or SLX
3. Wide range 10speed cassettes to match the rest of your 10speed drivetrain

Option 2: Slap on an XD driver:

 

1. All SRAM 11speed groupsets from GX upwards.

Then there are a few other options and combos of parts.

 

Based on your brief of cheap and simple I would advise either SRAM NX or Shimano SLX. I currently have a full SRAM NX drivetrain and it works flawlessly. A bit heavy, but otherwise no problems. Being able to shift from the 11t sprocket to the 42t sprocket in only two trigger pushes is quite satisfying.

2 not sure if there is as the ratchet system is part of the unit and not a replaceable item and therefore cannot be ghetto modded, but I could be wrong and you may be able to mod it. Best look through senor Google to see if it's possible
