Charged me R300 to put in 2 tokens in my Pike. According to them warranty on shock and fork would be void if I do it myself and they need to send it to RockShox to be done.

Apparently these tokens are user-replaceable / swap-able and takes around 5 mins to do.

According to other forum members I have been ripped-off big time.

Won't be going back.

I guess 5 minutes of Google isn't worth you saving any money. Not defending the shop here, but you're really the only person to blame if you can't be bothered to research any advice you receive. Do you do the same things with your car workshops? Just blind believe and pay through your nose?

Sorry but I'm quite sure you could have done the work. I'm quite sure you can also afford 300 bucks because the rest of us who can't, make sure you "have" to spend that money before you do.

Good luck in future man. And remember, your smart phone can get the answer to almost any question within a matter of seconds. It might save you a lot of money throughout your life, not just in bikes.

A while ago I hurt my ankle after serval weeks of healing, I still wasn't sure that it was ok. I was pointed in the direction of a sports Doctor by somebody right here on the Hub.

I waited 2 weeks for this Dr to see me.

The big day finally arrived.

He saw me for less than 5 mins, told me that my ankle is all good and that I can cycle.

This cost me R1000, even though nothing was wrong with me and he didn't "treat me".

Was I upset? No. This advice was valuable.

Could I have googled that I would be ok. Probably

If I did, would I have had piece of mind? No!

Years of experience come at a cost, and even if we can sometimes do things ourselves, it's often better to let people who know what they are doing to rather do it and compensate them for their skills.

This is what your boss does by paying you a salary BTW ????

Another punt for Ridgeway. Rory and Andrew always go out of their way to help me, and its a pleasure dealing with them.

The new shop is also really well stocked. Which is not good for my credit card statement!

When I worked in edenvale I used to buy stuff from them and had a few small things done by them on my bike. Rory is always friendly . And they have a top bike technician there.

Shops like these will hopefully be around for ever.

I pop in to Ridgeway if I need something, or I've failed miserably at some DIY fiddle over the weekend and I want help to get going, IMO they've improved a lot since they started.

Andrew is cool and he speaks noob when I refer to parts as thingie and they go out of the way to help, even so when I popped in one Saturday and needed them to redo the rim tape I stuffed up, 30mins before closing time.

Some of their stuff is a more expensive than other stores, but if I weigh up driving further to save the few rands, I guess it balances out.
