WPCA Country Classic Series

the WPCA have lined up 3 endurance races in the countryside. These races were chosen to complement the longer distance races hosted by other organisations during the same time.

  • 25 September – Piketberg (“So You Think you can Climb”) – Sponsored by Nedbank Sports Trust (85 kms)
  • 6 November – Slanghoek Valley (120kms)
  • 13 November – Caledon (“Stairway to Heaven and Earth”) (80kms)

Outriders Cycle Festival

  • 11 December – Outriders Festival of Cycling – Killarney

This annual event is picking up momentum and we encourage the whole family to join. There will again be the usual Cat 1, 2 and 3 racing, fixie races, scholar events, sprints and fun ride, as well as kid events and an expo. More information to follow soon.

2017

We are working on a number of races for the new season, which will again see a mix between criteriums and endurance races. More information will follow in December.

Seeding

The Summer Series will be based on rider seeding. Riders will no longer be able to pick their category, which will now be assigned based on your performance during the winter season. Seeding will be published prior to the Piketberg race. You will be able to re-use your 2016 race numbers irrespective of the category you are placed in.

Cool stuff, but how will be seeding be determined? I know it says based on winter performances, but what if someone only did 2 or 3 events?

How will seeding work if you are new to the WP cycling scene? Previously raced elite? Thanks!

it difficult to determine - what disciplines did you race in ie Road , TT , Crits  , Killarney- as an example , if you rode 3 events in Cat 1 with 3 DNF then you might be placed in Cat 2 unless you really feel that you would now be competitive in CAT1

if you rode CAT 2 and finished in the comfortably in the bunch you'll stay there - esp if they were the road races. if you won CAT 2 overall then you might be promoted to CAT 1 dependent on your age.

Enter Cat 1 , you wont be turned away BUT if you raced Elites 10 years ago - then you might want to start in CAT 2. we are open to suggestions from our cyclists.

there were Masters and Vets racing in CAT 1 in the winter series

Hi Andy, just a request/question - will the criteria of the seeding also be published? Just for those who might find themselves in a cat below of what they want to be to know what they should do to improve their seeding?

I like this thread!!!

When i started many moons ago, this is how we cycled!!!

Stop worrying about seeding. if you want to be seeded go ride PPA funrides and the CTCT

If you didnt competed in the winter league, start in CAT3 and work your way up to CAT1. Simple

yes , riders will know before hand where they will be riding. ie there are some cat 3 riders that dished out too much pain to the other cat 3 riders - too young too fast. they will be riding cat 2 - no negotiations. some big changes to winter league in 2017. most riders will be moving up a cat. PM me
