Front Suspension

Hi all

Is there a big difference between the Fox F100 RL 29 and SR Suntour XCR Air front shocks in terms of price and performance? I tried online comparison website, but can't seem to find one that actually can assist.

Kind regards

Without doing any internet research I think the Fox is likely to be lighter, better performing and more expensive than the XCR. I think the difference on all counts is likley to be significant.

That Fox fork has been superceded by several newer models since it came out. Dunno about the Suntour.

I presume these are options you are considering as a 2nd hand buy? Please give some background to your query. Provided the condition is good I would likely opt for the Fox every time.

Fox all the way. I wouldn't touch that XCR with a ten foot pole.

That said, if you're buying second hand, make sure there's no stanchion wear on the Fox or you'll be in for a nasty repair bill.

yes the big difference is one is a FOX and the other isn't

but if you are buying 2nd hand get a pro to check the fox (or whatever else) out before you buy it as a trashed fork is junk no matter who makes it .

Thanks all! I'm interested in a dual suspension mtb (looking at a Trek 2011 HiFi). On the reviews I've seen, the bike comes out with a Fox F100 RL 29 front shock, but the bike is sold with the SR Suntour XCR Air, so was wondering if the person might have swopped out the forks. Even on the Trek website, it states Fox in the specs.

The bike looks good, but I am also certain the fork has been changed. The Suntour isn't horrible, but it's gonna hold the bike back a lot. If you can, replace it ASAP, or look for another bike
