Newbie- road bike-questions

Hi guys!

I am new on the forum, although I have been lurking for a while. Call me a bike hub stalker if you want :). I'm an avid mountain biker but recently decided to start participating in triathlons so needed to get a road bike. The biggest challenge I face is getting my gear packed as I've grown accustomed to packing everything but the kitchen sink in my Camelbak.

So the question is this- are backpacks/bladders allowed in road races and/or multisport events? I don't mind being the odd one out, but have honestly not seen anybody use it. Or is there any reason why it's better not used. The idea of a dozen little compartments and two bottles on the rack really does not appeal.

Anybody?

its cause if you use one on a road/tri bike you will look like a complete pillock :whistling:

its a race... why would you bring a kitchen sink anyway ?

seriously though that's why race jerseys have pockets on the back ^_^

I could easily tell you to ignore any negative comments and do as you please, but ... I am still to find the roadie that don't care how they look on a bike, although some beg to differ. Just go out there and check the matching EVERYTHING.

Anyway, all things being equal, the choice is yours.

Thanks for the comments, I suppose a Camelbak is going to skip this one. When in Rome ....but seriously?! No saddle bag? LOL! That's pushing it. *leaving now to buy a new helmet, top, shoes and socks *

So that heavy multitool bounces around in thete and digs into the back? And spare tube? Surely not?

No mate , us roadies are smoooooth , we don't bounce nothing .hahah. For real though. You don't really need a multi tool for road . I have a poc pac that holds a tube , bomb , tyre lever , and 50 bucks. Fits perfectly into the middle pocket without bouncing at all.

Interesting. I feel half naked if I don't have a liter and a half of water and a host of spares on my back. Actually i'm like a tortoise in more ways than one

2x700ml camelback bottles is a lot of juice. one bottle with the legal stuff and the other... Water.

And thats what the water points are for. If you quick enough you only need 1 bottle aparently.why I use more. Most people have a saddlebag unless you look at the A batch peeps etc.

Makes you wonder whether it was the ditching of the saddle bag that got them into A....????
