Knysna - Any Good Road Routes

Hi hubbers, 

 

 

Going to be in Knysna in about 2 weeks for a wedding and thinking about taking my bike down. Has anyone had experience road cycling there, and any suggestions on fun safe routes? 

 

 

Hoping for good climbs that are safe to do solo. 

 

 

All suggestions welcomed although not the ones involving MTB as I have just sold mine .

I was recently there and did some good cycling from Knysna to Plett and to George and Sedgefield I think...? Also did a ride or two to Buffalo Bay (I think...!)

 

There are some good climbs, especially to Plett.

 

The roads can get busy and there are one or two sections where the shoulder is very narrow. I didn't go to Wilderness (?) as there was really no shoulder past Sedgefield.

 

But yes, good cycling. Also a few groups and solo riders - so I assumed it was generally safe.

also going down first weekend November, will be staying in Sedgefield, will cycling out to Knysna go up to Simola Hill and then to out the heads, and back should give me around 100km with decent climbing, will also be alone.

 

My biggest fear is riding the N2 and the trucks in the Yellow lane

I dont mind the N2, at least people are paying attention and large portions of that part of N2 are 60/80 zones and there is always a yellow lane. Some lekker riding. 

 

You could also ride to Katara, two great climbs and much quieter roads.

Depending on fitness level, you can do Knysna to Natures Valley (+/- 130KM there and back)

Sedgies to Wilderness. Wilderness to Buffles baai and back to Sedgefield is 100km. Quite a lekker ride that I did on my roadie SS last December.
