Bingo. They must fire his nutrition specialist. You have to eat some proper food balanced with the gels. Too many gels, and the arse starts leaking.

It's also not the first time this has happened. .it happened at the TDF too.

Today definitely a day for the breakaway. Bet you there are going to be 2 Cannondale riders and 2 Dimension Data Riders in the break.

There you have it folks, hope you have the decency to drop them an email with the advice. Sure they'll appreciate it. Maybe suggest some biltong, nuts and a sandwich?

To be fair, he did admit he over did the gels yesterday. You dont need to be a nutritionist with a sports science degree to make a comment on that.

And talking from experiencing a lot of porta loo's at the DC one year, Roctanes are pretty lethal in high doses!

So Ryan Gibbons did not start yesterday. Makes sense. The rest of the tour does not suit the sprinters. And he is a youngster.

Now i am wondering..... will he be going to TdF? Given his amazing sprinting performances in the Giro he must have enormous potential. And given Cavendish is out.... might he be the No 1 sprinter in DDD? or is it Edvald B-Hagen ?

Is this confirmed?

Not officially confirmed, but Cav has only just started training again.  Whether he will be fit enough in time for TdF is up in the air at this point.  He has no planned races as far as I know.

Why even consider Edvald in that role?

If Gibbons is able to properly recuperate from this tour, he would be my first choice.

Yes, he doesn't have the experience that an Edvald has, but I think its time the youngsters are given that exposure.

Did Tom actually have stomach problems or did he just need to go? If he didn't have issues like a bug or something and it was just his day for an extra movement then he shouldn't be feeling pap as you do after a bout of gastro.

27 gels will rock the tuffest tums

Hope Gibbo gets to France

+1 on that. Imagine a win on the first stage............. He clearly has the speed to be right up there with the big boys. Give him a decent lead out train and I am sure he won't disappoint.
